A few questions

Well, I have a few upgrade questions.
1. Sound card
I run to my receiver using the S/P DIF for DVD and music, and the external decoder for games. The on board sound does have a tendency to crackle during games, so I'm wondering what would be the best. I'd put the premium on music quality and DVD playback over games, and would really prefer an optical connection to my receiver. Thing is, I have a server case so a drive mounted break out does not seem the best solution.
2. CPU Fan
Is the SLK-900 the best for my 2.4C? I'd like something I can take with me when I eventually upgrade to a Prescott core.
3. Case fans
Any recommendations for a good, quiet case fan. I run 3X80mm BB fans (generic) now, and boy are they loud. Almost as loud as my SCSI drives, though not as much of a heat source.
4. Secondary HD
When I originally bought my WD 80GB Caviar SE, I'd planned on making it a master on the secondary channel, then getting a fast SATA to run as my OS drive. Since I'm now convinced my SCSI drives (I bought them 2 yrs ago, <$50 each so I'm not so reluctant to part from them) are the source of some temperature woes, I'm thinking of putting them in my old system. I took out one of them, and my case temp dropped 5C (I was using all 10 bays). I see my options as WD Raptor, another 80GB to run a RAID 0, or a large volume drive for data storage. Any preference amongst those choices?
TIA for any input.

I would suggest either using your current 80GB drive as the OS/Programs/Games drive and getting a large (200 or 250GB?) drive for data, or getting a Raptor for your OS drive and using your 80GB WD SE for data. Which option you choose depends on how much space you need. I'm not a fan of "AID" 0 (it isn't redundant, so it can not be properly called "RAID") because of the reliability issues it introduces. Unless you backup religiously and plan on either keeping a spare drive around "just in case" or are willing to accept the long downtime that would occur while you replace one of the drives, it is not a good option, even considering the additional performance that you might gain.

LOL. I wondered what happened to this thread, I had to search for it. Yeah, I have a lot of reservations concerning striping also, especially with IDE drives. I think I'll probably go th Raptor route, but man I have a lot of time on this OS build with d/l's and all., but I'd like to remove my SCSI drives soon so I lower my case heat and raise my FSB back to 260 (which seems more stable than any of the 1:1 o/c's I run on this). I'm putting an order together soon.Maybe I'll just get the Raptor and soundcard now. I'm still leaning toward the Terratec DMX Fire LT. Dang, I didn't think I'd be putting more money into my system anytime soon, but I needed a case for my old MB anyway. Thanks for the reply/
