Is pitting pc1200 in to 533fsb system worth it in terms of performance increase?
How do pc1066 and pc800 compare to DDR in 533fsb systems?
(The only benchmarks I was able to fined is with DDR266 and not dual channel)
I can't see the point these days unless you already have the right m/b.
And even then you won't be able to make use of the latest 800FSB processors.
The sheer cost would certainly put me off doing something like that.
If you're already running PC1066 I would keep at that unless you need/want a faster CPU in which case go for a nice shiny new 875/865 board and get rid of the ram to some unsuspecting friend.
I'm running 1GB of pc1066 on Intel D850EMVR with 2.53ghz 533fsb cpu
Given that RDRAM is dieing I want to get rid of it while I can get some money for it
and I want to know how big of a performance hit I'll take by switching to DDR and keeping my cpu or I can cross my fingers and wait for the SiS r659 mobos
I don't know much about the SiS chipsets but it won't hurt to upgrade.
However if you keep the 533FSB processor you won't be able to take advantage of DDR400 and so would take a bit of a performance hit, don't know how much though.
It would probably be worth saving the pennies and making a major upgrade in a few months time when the next gen CPU's have settled in the market. The price you get for your ram won't change too much by then and of course you will be getting rid of a package rather than odd little bits.
If I was in your situation I'd make just one change: upgrade your chip to a 3.06GHz P4. Your motherboard supports HT. With that chip and the rest of your platform I'd think you'd be good to go for a long time.
