A few questions about my current setup...

Hey guys. I am currently running my Q6600 @ 8x400 @ 3.2GHz. So here is my first question. I am running my PC2 6400 RAM at a 1:1 ratio. Does this mean my RAM is only running at 400MHz as opposed to 800MHz? If so, what do I need to do in order to OC my RAM and bump it up to a higher speed?

Secondly, when I open up CPU-Z, it says that there are only TWO cores. What's up with this? Here is a picture:

Finally, I am facing a similar problem in Speedfan. Sometimes it reads four cores, other times it will only read two cores. When it reads all four, the temps on each core are lower. When it only reads two cores, the temps on each are higher. What's up with this? How can I fix this? Here are some pics of the Speedfan problem:

When reading two cores:

When reading four cores:

Thanks a ton in advance for your help, guys. You have been a huge help for me so far.

No it means your ram is running at its specced 800mhz, its ddr, dual data rate. It's all very confusing, wikipedia could help you out though.

As for the 2 core vs 4 core discrepancy, what does the windows taskmanger tell you? 2 or 4 cores ? I'm not very knowledgable about qauds coz I don't own one, nor have I built/oc-ed one for any friends of mine. Is it possible to disable cores to save energy? Not sure, if it is though, that might explain something. Also, what do cpu-z and speedfan tell you when you run your q6600 at stock speeds?

Oh, and your temps seem to be really low, unless you've got some AC blowing cold air right into your case I doubt your zalman 9700 could achieve those temps.

When I go to "Processes" in the task manager and try to set the affinity, I can only set it on two cores...

Anyone? Do I need to bump up my VCore, perhaps? It's at 1.365V in the BIOS, but CPU-Z reads it at like 1.32V.

Try 1.4, although I doubt that's it. It's just very weird that it sometimes shows 2 or 4 cores. Did you try looking when your rig is NOT oc-ed ?

I just bumped it to 1.4xx. After my OC, my computer was triple booting. Now it's back to double booting (which is apparently normal for these P35 boards). Also, since my reboot last night, my system has been reading all four cores... I hope it stays this way.

it will stay. These CPUs need more voltage than people think. The 2 most common problems I see people face when overclocking C2D and C2Q is setting the right voltage. They never give it enough and think 1.4v is too high. It's not, in fact it's very safe. and Second, people forget their memory. They don't set the right timings, ratio, or voltage. Then they get crashes BSOD etc and can't figure it out.

Never forget these things.
