A few problems with the IWill KK266 board..

I just got my new IWill KK266 motherboard and I'm having a few problems with it.. First of all, I have the jumper set to 133. I turn the computer on and it recognizes my Duron 600MHz as 800MHz. If I go into the BIOS and change the ratio and then reboot, nothing ever happens.. So I eventually have to turn the power off and then turn it back on. It still recognizes my Duron 600MHz as 800MHz after this. I go into Windows and everything's fine. If I ever restart, though, I have the same problem.. The screen goes black and nothing ever happens, so I have to turn the power off and then back on. What's the deal with this? And what's the deal with the bus speed?

This is what I've narrowed down the problems to:

If I restart (either from the BIOS, Windows, or just pressing the reset button), the screen turns black and nothing every happens. I eventually have to turn the power off and then back on for the computer to come on.

My Duron 600MHz is factory unlocked and no matter what I do, I can't unlock the multiplier. If I change the settings in the BIOS and then save and exit, the screen goes black, I turn the power off and then on, and then it boots up at the default speed again.

I really don't understand what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have exactly the same problem, and then some. I contacted Iwill with this email:
I am having a problem with my KK266. Accually, this is my wife?s KK266, as
I have my own. Here?s my problem. Running a Duron 600, I cannot change the
multiplyer, nor can I change FSB from the bios menu. No matter where the
multiplyer is set, it stays at 6. The same is true with my Athlon 750 on
this same motherboard. On my(the other) KK266, there is no problem. Both
Processors are unlocked, by the way. All of the componets have been
switched from one MB to the other, so I have narrowed the problem to the
motherboard. Both processors will work at either 100 or 133 fsb, according
to where the jumper is set. The FSB cannot be changed from the bios. If
either the FSB or multiplyer is changed, when you save & exit the bios,
the computer just dies. If I turn off the power supply, then turn it back
on, the computer boots but there is no change in the multiplyer or fsb, no
matter where they are set. Also, if you try to restart from windows exit,
the computer does the same. If everything is left at auto, no problem. I
have tried both processors on both boards, and on my board, there is no
problem. Also, if you change the core voltage, the same thing happens,
EXCEPT that when you recycle computer, the core has changed. Any ideas?

I got this back from Jason at Iwill:

You say that you can boot both on 100 or 133 , so then for the
600*133FSB=798MHz, 750*133=997MHz. These are the speeds listed when booting
at 133FSB? If you can't change the multiplier the system still sees the cpu
as multiplier locked. Sounds like one of the power supplies isn't up to the
job, try disconnecting drives when increasing FSB.

I replaced the power supply with another(but not very good Deer 300watt) and now can run FSB to 150, but still cannot change multiplyer. My next move will be to exchange Power supplies with my Athlon system. I will let you know.

It is probably true what it is said about AMD power supplies. I use the Antec SX830 and o/c my Kk266 from the get go (TBird 800 at 980) and have yet to encounter a problem. I had to unlock the L1 bridges myself. I am using BIOS ver 2.27. Perhaps try flashing the BIOS to a newer version or use the Turkoc bios.

I tried downloading the newest BIOS from IWill's support site, but I get a "invalid BIOS type!" message whenever I try to flash. Where else can I get KK266 BIOS?

You're getting that message because your original bios is locked from being flashed. You have to go into the bios and unlock it first

Folks, read the problem with "133mhz fsb jumper" boards. It's a known problem that almost every board with a "133mhz FSB jumper" has problems OVERCLOCKING the chip to 133mhz.

PlunX: A Duron 600mhz is not supposed to run at 133mhz. Duron 600mhz are 100mhz FSB chips. So IWill's tech support is right, 6 x 133mhz = 800mhz. The only CPU's that run at 133mhz default is the new AMD "C" CPU's.

Alright, I went into the BIOS and turned on "BIOS ROM Flashable" and then I flashed the BIOS.

What's a good FSB to run my Duron at, then? I used to run it at 115x9.0 on my MSI K7T Pro2..

I'd try 7.5 multiplier with 133FSB to get you near 1Ghz.
Did you save a copy of your old bios? If ANYONE has a copy of the old bios then please email it to me at nino@purdue.edu
Thanks,
Nino

Ok,I've switched power supplies between my 2 systems, and I've switched processors between both systems, and I still have the same problem with the same board, ie. it will not let you change the multiplyer. The only differance that I can see is that the +12 volts on the good MB reads 12.90, and only 11.88 on the bad MB. PlunX, can you check your +12 volts and let me know what it reads?

What do you mean "check your +12 volts"? I'd be willing to do it if I knew how..

Boot into BIOS, see last page on the left side? Should be "PC Health Status". Enter it, and it will show you some of the self monitoring info, the last is +12 volts......

My board will not boot at any FSB with my unlocked 1.2 T-Bird. Tried all the tricks, but nothing works. I don't even get beeps from the MOBO, which seems to tell me it's bad. There is a green LED on the board that comes on, but I can't even get to the BIOS screen. ZIP, zilch, nada....

I don't have the luxury of having another MOBO or T-Bird to test on it, because I was a member of the Intel camp up until now. I think I'll have newegg.com send me a new MOBO to try.

FWIW, my experience was easy...just went with a locked Duron 700, bumped the voltage to 1.8 and switched the jumper to 133 and hit 933. Ran 3DMark 2000 in a loop for about 4 hours without a hiccup. Since I built this for another person I'm not inclined to do any more experimenting. I may get the RAID version to replace my Epox 8KTA2 and then play with different processors. Used an Enlight 7xxx mid-ATX with 300w.

In addition here are are a few of my issues:
Connect all L7 bridges as well to allow O/C Duron/Tbird to boot at 1.85v and then default to BIOS vcore optimal settings
Try not to use a smart FAN on the Hsink. Reason at start up it starts lazily then picks up speed (during normal operation it can increase/decrease) - not good for AMDs (OK for Intels). AMD CPUS can burn up in 6 seconds without a HEatsink/fan - what does that imply?
Food for thought.
