That really is a great sunrise shot... I'm also curious if you did any post processing on it or if it truly looked that good.

The pier is pretty cool also.

From memory, that's as the shot came out of the camera (shot at -.7 EV to correct for my D80's tendency to underexpose), with some mild cropping (to remove more black from the base, and some mild sharpening.

I'm guilty of this too, but it really takes away from your compositions when you half the image with the horizon (image 1 and 2).

I had intentionally tried to 'third' the skyline with the jetty shot...there was some more sky above it that I cropped to achieve that...

Happy to see other suggestions on cropping, for both shots :)

I love the coloring, but hate the light pole in the picture. I wonder if it can be photoshopped out? I don't think cropping would be effective because it throws off the balance from left to right. Ditto the van, and window at the bottom, but those would be easy to remove.

Not sure, I'm no pp wizard ;) Spend too much time in front of the computer at work and on here to want to spend more time jacking around in front of it.

Remember, I saw the sunrise from bed, and before I had a shower & headed to work I scampered out and took some shots in front of the house. You can't really plan your sunrise shots & backdrop unless you've got waiiii too much free time.
