As yall know, I have 3 AMD X2 dual core machines.

I have been running 2 instances of "Folding@home-Win32-x86.

I tried modifying these 2 instances and running only one instance also.

I either dont get enough points or I dont use 100% of both processors.

I just noticed that people were talikig about running this
..........................................................................................................
Windows XP/2003/Vista/2008 SMP client console version

"6.22 beta2 for MPICH (32-bit or 64-bit)"
...........................................................................................................

Is this the client I shoud be running ???

I appreciate all of the advice I have been given,,I would like to add...I had to look up what "SMP" stood for.

I am a noob and dont understand all of the the words or terms used.

I did figure out how to modify the "Client.cfg" with help from AT.

Can you guys give me a hand one more time.......lol...

Also, how do I uninstall FOH if I need to install a different client ??

TIA.

:)

You will get better ppd running the SMP client which uses up to four cores all by itself.

I think you have to restart the client after the first start, which goes into the configuration stage, otherwise it does not know you want to do SMP WUs and will start a regular WU.

If you need to change the Client.cfg (configuration) you should use the -configonly flag. The Client.cfg file is a binary file, not a text file and editing it with a text editor can sometimes screw it up.
I make a new shortcut to the executable and rename it Config. Then right click that shortcut and select Properties. In the Target textbox at the end of what is in there add a space and the -configonly flag like this:

C:\fah2\smp6.exe -configonly

This new shortcut will open the configuration dialog.

Some F@H clients can be uninstalled from Control Panel/Add/Remove Programs.

And some clients you can just delete the folder you copied the program in.

Any questions please ask :)

Check with e.g. Taskmanager: if you see as many Folding processes (FahCore_xx.exe) as you have cores then all is ok.
You can see - when using a GPU-client - one more process (5 instances of FahCore_xx.exe) because you are running all the four cores of a quad plus the GPU.
The xx denotes a number (for the GPU-client it is FahCore_11.exe in my case)

on my CPU I only see 2, one for each instance opened when I should be seeing 2 for each right? I followed the guide for using 2x SMP clients on a quad.

nvm...I found out that you have to enable -smp.

I now have 4 threads and each core pegged to 100%.

So now I'm folding on my PS3, my overclocked GTX280, and now my quad CPU.

Should I run the FAHSmpAffinityChanger.exe as well? is that necessary. I installed it after reading about it online. SHould I uninstall that?
