Hey everyone,

Decided to go to the Phoenix Botanical Garden recently and I thought I'd share a few pictures I took. It was pretty nice, although I assume it's much better in the Spring. It's getting pretty hot in Arizona right now.

For those interested, these were taken on a Canon t2i with a 50mm f1/8 prime (no zooming capability). The hummingbirds were captured at 1/4000th of a second shutter speed.

Anyways, on with the pics :)

The botanical gardens out here are pretty nice. The humidity, sun and rainfall means that the gardens are good year round. Compared to Hong Kong though, I think that the botanical gardens in Singapore are better. The Singapore gardens are larger and are situated more as a traditional English garden. They have a nice orchid garden too.

I must say that the grain on your pics looks rather nice. I just have a point and shoot and it's too slow to have such a nice effect.

That's interesting. That would be nice to go to a garden that's blooming all the time and take some pictures. There's pretty much no humidity here in Arizona, so during August and September I'm sure it's all Cactus.

The grain should look pretty nice, I think almost all of these pictures were shot with ISO 100. The hummingbird pictures might have been more around ISO 400 or so if I remember correctly, just because I had to change the shutter speed to 1/4000 of second to get the wings at a stand-still.

Did you get a chance to go to the gardens when the chiluli (sp) glass was being exhibited?

Really nice stuff.

Good pics!

Thanks! I didn't get to go when Chihuly's work was there, but I have been to the Chihuly museum in Tacoma. That place was amazing! Unfortunately it was when I was in my young teens so I didn't have a camera like I have now.

What the hell goes twisted glass have to do with plants?

Nope, I didn't see any bonsai trees. If I remember correctly, bonsai trees need a really specific environment to survive and I think Phoenix's environment may be way too hot.

I would imagine the twisted glass of Chihuly sort of resembles a flower in some way. They had some metal sculptures there that were really abstract, and I would have rather seen Chihuly's work there.

When I was in Phnx last year I stopped by there, nice place. I also climb up on this huge ass boulder/mini mountain thing by the highway, very cool. Also the South Mountains(is this right? right down from downtown was a pretty cool drive

Did the boulder thing look abstract and very strange? There's a couple of those right by the botanical garden. My boss actually filmed a music video there.

South Mountain is around Tempe, which is the southern part of Phoenix. People do some hiking up there.

nice.

your humingbird pics remind me of the praying mantis killing a humingbird by using it's barbed forearms and stabbing the bird thru its chest
