Both of my Grandpas were CO's in WWII. In Canada that meant that you had to either

1. Work on the farm, if your dad owned one.
2. do some other work for the country.
3. serve as a non-combatant. (medic, support, etc)

I would be a CO too, I love my country, but not enough to kill for it, human life is more valuable than my life liberty and happiness. Of course, it would depend on what the situation surrounding the war was. I would be a CO in a Vietnam, or Iraq war, but if we were being invaded by Russia. I'm a selective CO. 😀

This is the problem with America today, you are all willing to live here and not be opressed like every other country in the world, but you arent willing to serve for it. We have become a nation full of drippy boxes that only think about themselves and whats on television tonight.

You have no idea how well you have it.

If I were to be in a combat, I much rather have voluntereed soldiers along my side than civilians who are forced to be there.

There is not going to be a draft.
It would be suicide for the GOP and Bush, as thick-headed as he is, knows this.

They draft 'supporters' are merely people trying to get you to support a pullout.

What about after the election? If Bush wins he'll have nothing to lose as he can't run for a third term anyway.

You all do realize that the only ones pushing for a draft right now are Democrats (Charlie Rengel & friends), right?

Don't forget Chuck Hagel, a Republican.

Rangel is the main sponsor.

If you are not willing to defend our country then you have no reason to even be here... It is a sad thing that we are loosing all of these lives now but they all new what they were getting themselves into...

people seriously have nothing better to do than worry about getting drafted?? jeesh i'm sure theres probably a bill floating around to bring prohibition back....they're both next to impossible to actually happen.

What about the situation with brothers? I there is a family of 4 brothers, would the youngest not be drafted? Or could they all go when their numbers are called?

Even people who would not dodge MUST be asking:
What do those ungrateful brats in Iraq have to do with defending this country?

The incumbents in the House and Senate and White House are all republicans. If people get pissed they'll vote them out, which means the GOP stands to lose even if bush doesn't.

GW won't risk a draft unless he has to reinstate it - he wants his brother Jeb to be the next president after his 8 years are up.

There WILL be a draft - Peak Oil will force one on us...

Yes, they all go. I don't remember the actual wording of the ruling or whatever that you are referring to, but I believe it only applies if all the other brothers are killed in combat.

Oh good. FUD. We've been destined to "run out of oil in 10-20 years" for the past 50 years. Bloody conspiracy theorists. Go sell your BS somewhere else, I'm not buying.

that's a myth

Not fighting for some dumb cause.
Why the heck are we over there anyways?!

N Korea is talking to China about their nukes and we're standing pat.

Well your not going to be drafted for Iraq. And North Korea hasn't been a threat since the 60's. I still dont see you signing up to go serve in Korea.
