It wasn't dumb at all for the young imperiled nation that existed when it was drafted. It's dumb now because of how it has been interpreted and because the nation isn't young or imperiled any more.
And, yeah, 0.0% probability that any constitutional amendment gets passed in our life times, never mind nullifying second - we are way to divided for that to happen. Given the current prevalence of gun ownership in America ( > than one gun in circulation for every man, woman and child in the US), it's a battle that is already lost, IMHO.
While it seems this may have changed some in 2020 you shouldn’t confuse number of guns with gun prevalence. For the last several decades the percentage of households with at least one gun in it has steadily declined. It’s just that the people who do own guns keep buying more and more.

Gore gave up. He could have asked state supreme court to order statewide recount.
Sort of the point. He accepted the SC as having as he final say, regardless of the real truth which is the crux of the debate. Courts are democracy’s method of deciding. iveshane and I seem to feel that truth is not subjective, but I believe that what the real truth is can’t be forced in a democracy but must manifest as society evolves. Sadly, right now we face powerful head winds. That may change.

I am about 75% certain that American Democracy will end in either 2024 after the election or early 2025

Neither of you have had any actual real or rational arguments lol. You just post an unrelated argument with an unrelated study and call it a day.

How low is your IQ exactly?
Like you, I don’t care about rational arguments personally, as, unlike you I have a very low IQ. That is why, unlike you I don’t need to expend great effort in convincing others I am right because it is self evident and so I could care less what you think.

And besides, I was only suggesting to fskimospy that while his capacity to reason far outstrips what I see coming from you, I think he is mistaken to chalk up his advantage to the notion you are either stupid or lazy. It takes considerable IQ, in my humble opinion, to concoct the delusional world you live in and then turn around and appear to believe it. You seem to me to be and exceptionally gifted delusionist. You should try your hand at science fiction.

Do you have data to back up that assertion?

data appears to be somehwat noisy (at least on statista). i've seen articles cite as low as 30% household firearm ownership. but the trend overall is downwards, so that does indicate that the people who do own guns just own more of them.

The rest of the country may be a republican shit-hole, but not California.
Californians know the difference between right and wrong, sane vs insanity.
In other words, don't fu*k with California. They want gun control and they shall have gun control.

and yet it's somehow the 5th largest economy in the world.
It's a powerhouse of entertainment, technology, industry, and agriculture.
This makes California a "well rounded state" as one congressman so infamously said.

I am beginning to think any civil war over guns would be over very quickly.

Civil War Starts.

CA issues mandatory automatic software update patch. Electricity, water, and sewage all disappear for the rebels. Yea, there are a few holdouts with their own drain fields, but the population centers turn into disaster areas overnight.

Millions of cell phones owned by rebelling registered republicans promptly have their battery firmware overwritten, causing them to spontaneously ignite. Homes, businesses, and prepper storage areas all go up in smoke.

Millions "make a friend" drones are deployed, which get very friendly and explosive with anything in a geographic area that has a body temperature of a human, looks like a human, and is a registered republican.

Between dodging friendly drones, and trying to turn the AC back on, the resistance to the new order just collapses.

Civil War over.

While that's a nice "rosy" picture, it's unlikely to be fast or painless. The country is littered with metro areas surrounded by rural areas, there would be lots and lots of bad things happening.

Hey, the gun lovers fantasy is they take a stand and we all just roll over and die. There is no good reason my fantasy cannot just be as delusional!

Funny how neither the judge nor Lindsey Graham put it in those terms at all-

So two out of how many million think that way?
We can go round and round on gun control, but the bottom line is that the only way to stop gun violence and accidents is to ban them. I'm moving into the ban camp because people are stupid, and appear to be trending downward.

Liar liar pants on fire.

Turns out once you index it per capita, the republican shitholes have much higher murder rates.

CA is 29 out of 50, and has a murder rate 1/3rd that of republican shitholes like Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alaska.

Since s0me0nesmind1 is clearly a drooling moron who has never had an original thought I will point out the obvious.
If you only have a 10 people living in a republican shithole, and 1 is murdered, your murder rate per capita is much higher
then a well governed democratic area that has 100 people living in it, and has 2 murders.

Gonna dig a little deeper of who really are the perps and victims of those crimes?

Friends in "shithole"(your own word of wisdom) Louisiana sent me this.

Damn evil white redneck Republicans are killing each other...oh wait.

Ninety-two percent of the number to date are Black, 85% are Black men, 100% of those killed were by guns,” KSLA legal expert Jay Florence said.

Heartbroken mother, others push for changes to put an end to ongoing deadly gunfire in Shreveport (ksla.com)

That' was just a mid size city, let see with large cities with long running Democrat administrations such as New Orleans.

New Orleans murders in 2019: What the data tells us (wdsu.com)

Similar story.

One more thing, aren't you the one that said this? Yup, it was you.

When a person resorts to insults, they lost the discussion. It is an admission that said person is not capable of putting together a reasonable statement in response

Uh huh.

Actually, the gun lovers fantasy is getting every round in the ten ring.
Sorry.
Gun owners are now represented by gun nuts and those fuckers have lost their mind with too many fantasy of recreating some cheesy 70s or 80s movie. And a scrotum filled with what if scenarios

While I doubt I am a typical gun lover fancying my love of them relates to their physical beauty and mechanical genius, and also while wishing they had never been invented, I found myself actively contemplating what fantasy I might be enjoying that attracts me to them. And the answer that bubbled up almost instantly was the fact that the idea I could kill everybody in a ten mile radius, where I sufficiently armed which I am not nor really desire to be, is psychologically calming. The imaginary empowerment supplied by gun ownership, in my case and certainly the case of most I would assume, is that I have no need to act on any such thought. I feel a sense of security and it makes my life that much more stress free and thus less potentially psychologically crazy. I am thus quite convinced I could live a thousand years and never ever shoot anybody. And because I am quite certain of that fact I do not find guns to be the real issue but the lack of mental health created by our competitive culture. Sanity is non violent and is the only thing that can defeat its manifestation.

I like guns.
I had friends who liked them too.

Up until 2008, you could actually have a reasonable discussion about guns and hunting.
Now its all weirdos with conspiracy theories and dreams of fantasy murder.

What I find hilarious is all the 2nd amendment flags next to the blue lives matter flags on all the trumptard lawns.
"Hey Steve...guess who is the first person you are going to murder if they ever try and take your guns away? "

99.999% of gun owners have never nor will ever use their guns to hurt another person.

You're mistaking people who are mentally ill who have easy access to guns with gun owners. That's your bad.

You really believe that only people in the US with guns should be the military run by Commander-in-Chief Josh Hawley and the Minneapolis Police Department ?

What is YOUR plan to confiscate hundreds of millions of guns? Spell it out here. You have all the time in the world to explain how it happens and why it wouldn't cause a civil war between individuals and the Federal Government, and between States and the Federal Government.

If your argument is that fuck it, let's just get the civil war over with already, then say so, it's 100% legitimate. Just spell it out, otherwise it's word salad to say you want to "ban" guns, or confiscate guns, etc. Because I'm just saying what is 100% obvious: ITS. NEVER. GOING. TO. HAPPEN.

Harping on about banning guns is a waste of time and yes, COSTS VOTES. No one is a Republican voter or non-voter who hears "we're going to confiscate everyone's guns" and runs out to vote Democrat.
