All the above is true.
Words also evolve quite rapidly in some languages depending on how people use them.

It is also true that certain people who, some believe would have a prejudiced view of black men, seem to use thug to describe black criminals with a relish that is absent from their comparatively rare use of the same word to describe white criminals.

For example it would be interesting to start to test the hypothesis by counting how many times that word was used too refer to the white motorcycle gang members who got into a gun battle in Texas compared to the recent uses of the word to describe anyone from protestors to vandals to people who shoot cops who aren't white.

....

YOU are the one associating race and changing the definition. What you are doing is true racism.

Seriously. Please fuck yourself off with that nonsense and have a nice day.

Thug.

Coded racism?

Very good.

Unlike blankslate, when I see members of a white biker gang, "thug" is the first word that comes to mind.

When I see a depiction of an Italian mob enforcer, "thug" is the first word that comes to mind.

When I see an MSXIII gang member with tattoos all over his body, "thug" is the first word that comes to mind.

When I see a posturing / posing young black man wearing bling and flashing money / drugs / weapons, "thug" is the first word that comes to mind.

None of these people are embarrassed to be associated with that word. They actually want to be intimidating, and that's one implication of the word.

Yeah keep acting like there aren't absolutely people that do that. We had people on here doing that (like after the mods cracked down on people using "savages").

Seriously you want to use arguments like this look up the history of the word ******, because according to your logic it can't be racist either. Hell using your logic no words could ever mean anything other than their origin.

Next up you'll claim that people using "ninja" as a replacement for that isn't that at all because of ninja's origins and typical use.

And that's why you people suck donkey dick at understanding this stuff as it's all about intent. Is everyone using thug doing it with racist intent? Of course not, but you're just plain delusional if you don't think there are people doing exactly that.

STFU moron.

yeah ok noticing that the use of thug has become a habit with certain commentators about certain individuals is racist.

I have 2 words for you but I'm pretty sure off-topic forum rules forbid them.

"Noticing" means you're morally superior. Thanks for always finding new ways that we can be more racially sensitive!

Actually, noticing a correlation just might mean you are racist.

I am far from "morally superior" I realize that. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Actually, noticing a correlation just might mean you are racist.
^the above might just mean that you are fiendishly clever at using mental gymnastics/jujitsu to defend the likes of O'Reilly and others to hide your issues. who knows?

Ever think that those increasingly using it that way are specifically responding to your public sensitivity to it? It's exactly like those on this forum who started using sav*ge just to tick off the mods and the overly-sensitive. The VAST majority using the word weren't actually racists. They were pushing your buttons because you and your like are stupid, sensitive, little whiners who only THINK they know what true racism is. People object to you thinking you are the PC police and that being an SJW is noble.

I have called those same bikers "thugs" many times. Your ignorance of this reality only disproves your point.

It's funny because you worked out half of what was going on there and failed spectacularly on the last half.

Do you mind explaining where you disagree?

Another example:
Spastic.
Your people turned a word meaning "uncontrolled/unpredictable movement or behavior" into an offensive word (basically "retard"). Luckily it is not even remotely offensive here (not even spaz). If I lived in the UK I might be inclined to use it PROPERLY far more often, but idiots would still chose to take offense and lie to convince themselves that I was being offensive.

People deliberately and obviously try to wind up the mods, people get banned.

You can pretend it's because other people are whiny but it's because the first group were just being asshats.

Funny you should use retard in this context.

Of course they do, and they might also be pressing the issue.

There you go. I deliberately didn't mention it because I knew you were going to walk right into it. Why was it called "Spastics Society?" Because they were called "Spastics." Why were they called "Spastics?" Because their condition was characterized by wild/uncontrolled movements and that is exactly what the ENGLISH WORD MEANS. It was the official, accepted, medical way to refer to someone with cerebral palsy then with no offensive connotation what-so-ever. Some dumbasses not only forgot that the word "Spastics" had to exist for "Spastics Society" to even make sense, they forgot that the word meant something outside of the condition and managed to misconstrue it as offensive. It a triple whammy of stupid.

That's a bit like saying that I can't talking about ignition timing being retarded by a bad ECU because retarded was also once the accepted way to say that someone had a condition holding them back physically or mentally. Now it is offensive. Great.

Handicapped is even becoming offensive. "I'm not handicapped! I'm handi-capable!"

NAACP, the champion of civil rights, is now offensive because it refers to black people as "Colored!" Can you believe it?!

That's just a long way of you saying that you don't understand how language or people work, yes?

You guys are debating language over a video of some losers that lack the self discipline they should have years ago? I don't give a fuck what they are, how you refer to them or your pathetic captain justice rants over racisms. Trash is still trash.

Nope. I'm debating the usage of language over the usage of language. Dickheads in a video is irrelevant to the point.

Oooookay then...

Well, that's damn goody goody for you. You must reach the same relatively vast audience that Cavuto and O'Reilly reach. I could barely care less about what you call gun toting idiots. Because your calling them thugs repeatedly obviously means that commentators like O'Reilly follow your example. Right?

If you honestly believe that your use of the word is equivalent to everyone else's use of it (or relative lack thereof); I have even less reason to pay attention to the drivel that spills out of your (let's just be generous and call it a) mind.

It doesn't really make me angry other than when being aware of new possible dog whistle call may be starting to be used and pointing out such is attacked as racism.

Note in my first post I referred to this possible use of the word thug in such a way as a hypothesis.... you know a possible explanation of a seemingly observable phenomena that needs further testng?
For example it would be interesting to start to test the hypothesis by counting how many times that word was used too refer to the white motorcycle gang members who got into a gun battle in Texas compared to the recent uses of the word to describe anyone from protestors to vandals to people who shoot cops who aren't white.
Just bringing up the possible use of the word in a certain way got rabid push back. So tell me again Mister erudite dude... who is being too defensive in this thread again?
