Hey Group
I am gonna pick up a DVD recorder this week but I was wondering since I am not gonna get one that has a built in HDD how long will the standard DVD blank record on in the highest res. mode?

Thanks,
CA

Personally after playing around with one with a HD here at home...I would not get one without one. The convienience is amazing

Single layer is 120 minutes, dual layer is 240.

what does that mean?? is that what a newer version DVD recorder does as oppossed to the older standard that I am thinking of?

and btw, on a DVD recorder is there much quality loss from the highest res mode to the next one under?

Thanks

yeah, I know, its just I really can't afford one with a HDD, I soooooooooooo want one though 🙂

My Magnavox MDV630R DVD recorder has the following modes. Uses DVD+R/RW.

1. HQ - best picture 60 mins.
2. SP+ - better than S-VHS picture quality - 150 mins.
3. EP - Extended Play - beter than VHS picture quality - 240 minutes
4. EP+ - Extended Play - VHS picture quality - 360 minutes.

On the dual layer unit do you have to turn it over or does it just copy it on both sides automatically? sorry for all of the stupid questions.

and thanks SKORPI0 for explaining the quality modes...

No, you don't have to flip it over. There are two layers on one side. But you do have to have a recorder that supports dual layer.

Edit: They do make DL one's now like this Pioneer one.
