Hello All,

A small question.

I've been internetting with my ADSL USB modem all along. Now I've got a new PC with onboard Ethernet (Asus P4C800). Is it possible to use my onboard Ethernet instead of my USB Modem for ADSL "traffic" ?

This motherboard has :

3COM 3C940 Gigabit LAN PCI Controller supporting 10/100/1000 BASE-T Ethernet
Virtual Cable Tester? Net-Diagnosing Utility

I already have a crosslink cable. will this work?

thx.

It's a crossover cable and I don't expect you need it. A standard Cat5 Straight through patch cable would go from the modem's RJ-45 port to your computer or a port on a switch (alternatively). As to whether it will work for you...Does your modem have an ethernet port? If yes, then yeah, if no, then well...no.

Most DSL Modems that have a USB and Ethernet port, the two ports are not live at the same time. Many of the new ones within the last 6 months however now have both ports live.
