I asked this before here, but wanna ask it again.

If I use a dot org domain for a small business, will it haunt me later? We are not really making any money anyway, so it might as well be non-profit. Is there some agency that monitors dot orgs and makes sure that they are not for profits, or does it not really matter?

I wanna buy this url already.

I'm not sure that can you get a .org for for-profit business. At least, that's the way it should be.

RIAA has one, and that's why I'm going to fly my 747 into their headquarters.

Strictly speaking, RIAA is not a for-profit corporation. It's an organization composed of for-profit corporations. RIAA itself doesn't do business, doesn't have revenue nor does it have any profit.

Click me

Anyone may register .com, .net, and .org domain names and use them for any purpose. However, .edu, .mil, and .gov names are highly restricted to specific purposes and entities. See official registrars for more details.

Hmmmmm....

.org is potentially going to be turned over to a name registar other than Verisign and as a result the .org domain may end up being only registrable by non-profit organizations. It's a threat looming on the horizon, doubt it will happen but it could.
