Record last updated on 16-Aug-1999.
Record expires on 12-Dec-2000.
Record created on 12-Dec-1998.

I did a whois on Networksolutions.com and was thrilled to find that the domain is expiring next month. Now, looking at the last updated record, it seems as if the owner who bought it has no interest in it any longer, or maybe he would have re-subscribed (for lack of better term) by now or at least updated his record. Also, when typing in the actual domain name, no website comes up at all, just a 404 error.

So say it does expire come December...is it exactly December 12th, 2000, and on that day I can register it on NS's website or is there a wait period or what?

You can tell I have no clue ;) so any help would be appreicated :)

Not completly sure, but it expires on the 12th. If the other buyer doesn't renew it before then, it should become available again.

Someone else will know the answer for sure, but I'm guessing you'll have the best luck going through Network Soultions, instead of one of the discounted domain registars. I would think their record will be updated 'first' with the fact the name is once again available.

Why not search the Network Solutions site and faqs, or send them an email. Remember, they want the money. It doesn't matter to them where it comes from.

Good luck!

thanks for the reply :)

I combed there website...and I didn't really find definitive answers for this situation. Or maybe I'm just to damn impatient after studying all day for my Sociology exam in 9 hours ;)

Regardless, I'm on hold as I type this with Network Solutions.....but being midnight, I think I may have to call tomorrow after the test :)

If you don't get the answer you need, shoot them an email. Explain the situation. Again, they want the $$$!

I recently had a domain expire, and they pestered me for weeks about it by e-mail and snail-mail. I also think there may be some sort of grace period, because the domain I'm referring to expired October 12th (and is listed as such in the NIC's DB), yet the root servers still return records for it.

Network Solutions pestered me for about TWO (2) months when my domain expiered. I could still go to the page and see my junk there. In the third month, someone taiwanese company took it!
