** A Disturbing Trend....

Is it me or has the TeAm AnandTech SETI team lost about as many TeAmmates as we've gained?

We just lost another TeAmmate and are back to 2093....sorta go up 1 or 2 and then down 1 or 2?

😕

I know people come and go, but I would love to keep all of our TeAmmates...and keep them happy too! 😀

To all the departed TeAmmates....we'll leave the door open for you...and if you don't decide to return, may you enjoy your SETI endevors wherever you join. 🙂

Come on home though 😉

Well, many of them (myself included) have temporarily switched projects. ECCp-109 is nearing completion and we have a chance to get a top 4 position at the end. When it finishes, I will be returning to SETI, as many others probably will.

Actually people switching to other projexts is fine because they are still apart of the community and we know that we can count on them. Problem is that people have been removing their acounts from the team totally.🙁 I like the fact that we have still had a steady stream of new comers but as Engineer said the flow of people leaving has been about as steady. Does anyone know what is going on? What can we do to keep more people?

I've noticed that too. Its unfortunate, but what can you do? Nothing really.

I suppose that enthusiasm for SETI declined after the race among those of us who sit 'on the line' between projects (obviously those of us that are hardcore SETI wouldnt change). Problem is that we cant really do anything about it other than plead, and the value of each project has to be determined by each one of us individually, and we also have to respect each others decision.

There is some sort of light relief coming - ECCp is about to come to a close shortly.

Seems that way 🙁

I hadn't noticed this 🙁

Would be better if people didn't go!

Even if something has happened with mods or this support from this site (or lack thereof 🙁) please do not leave the TeAm 🙁 It does not affect the "Powers that be" in ANY way, shape or form. It only hurts YOUR team mates.

Just to clarify the ECCp-109 completion issue. There is less than a 50% chance of the project being completed by the end of August. There is less than a 75% chance that the project will end before the end of October. I guess it just depends on what time frame you consider to be 'nearing' (years, months, days, etc.).

Oh, I just thought I would throw this in here since we are talking about people leaving...

Don't forget... People are leaving schools for the summer and they may or may not have access to do the projects. The summer is always the slowest time of the year for DC. And I am sure it will pick up again during the fall.

hmm being part of a tema means i must not lose so has anyone notice that the team we kicked ( thought we didi ) many of light years out into space is ah just around 300,000+ wus away and i notic there out put is sometimes more then us........ sounds like another race may be near eh....

First off, sorry to my TeAmmates for not making my intentions clear earlier on. All along I had planned that when I reached my personal goal of 2500 seti wu's, I would switch back to FaH full time. My Anandtech seti account will stay right where it is, whether it grows again or not. I hit seti hard shortly after FaH started ver 2 which was a little funky at first..........
I still consider myself a TeAmmate, just not in the most populous DC project. My decision to crunch for the FaH project hits close to home, so I want to contribute to that project.
Having a great group to shoot the sh!t with makes just makes contributing to a great cause all the better. Whichever cause that happens to be..................
Great work EVERYONE, lets keep a rollin........

No need to apolgise ,you are still with TA & that's what counts 🙂

What is puzzling ,like engineer said ,is why we seem to gain a few then loose 1 on a semi-regular basis.
Though we are gaining members overall ,& we seem to be gaining a little faster in the past week or so ,so don't loose heart😉

Btw when RC5 & Eccp end TA SETI will gain nicely from that 🙂 ,whenever that is!😉

People come and go for many different reasons. /now that's profound/ 😛 LOL

I usually send e-mails to departed members asking why they decided to go. I only get responses about half the time.

One thing that I've discovered recently is that some of our losses occur when a member gets banned. :Q

It is only a natural reaction when one is banned to strike back. Those banned that belong to Team AnandTech quit.

When I discover that the departure is due to banning, I make the following points and take the following actions:

1. Leaving the team only hurts your friends and teammates ... the MODs couldn't care less.
2. Banning is usually a short term thing and they will probably be allowed to return.
3. I investigate the cause of their banning and try to mediate if possible.
4. I invite them to join our "offsite forum" where they are NOT BANNED. (We have several teammates who are in this situation right now.)

Not all of our teammates post to the DC Forum. So when they get banned we are not aware.

I wonder how many departures in the past were due to bannings?

Just wanted to share this with you. 😉

I hope the members who are leaving are doing so because they actually want to leave the team and not because they think they have to do so to switch projects or stop all together.

No one should argue with a teammates decision to participate in one project over another, several projects at once, or to switch projects all together. Everyone is free to do what they want (despite that recent thread

) and people have different needs/likes/beliefs/etc. My only problem is when a member leaves the team all together. If they're doing so because they found some other team they liked more, fine, that's their choice and I'm not gonna argue with it. However, I bet we've had teammates who aren't so "hardcore into this stuff" who've left the team after switching or stopping a project because they thought they had to.
