Hi. I have the correct pin heading to connect my ECS K7S5A to my Evercase front ports, and USB is enabled in bios. All USB devices work fine on rear USB ports but are unknown devices when attached to front ports. My theories include a bad board, IRQ conflict, or insufficient power. Any ideas on this?
Running Win98se with a 950mhz Tbird and 128mb 2100 DDR, 300w AMD approved PSU. I have tried:
Removing the unknown devices in safe mode.
removing the SIS USB controllers and reinstalling
replacing SIS controllers with standard windows controllers
disabling USB error detection
running a microsoft patch for SIS USB controllers w/ problems
rechecking the pin order many times. Originally I had the data pins crossed (one - with one +), could this have damaged the port or the board?
USB port shared IRQ10 w/ Hercules sound card, I disabled sound card in device manager and restarted, but no difference.
All I can see now is try putting the sound card in different slots or otherwise mess w/ IRQ's. I disabled ACPI in bios but its still there, not sure what that's about.
Any ideas? Is this a valid reason to RMA a montht past Newegg's 30 day warranty?
