One point in that clip that I strongly disagree with was the guy who was saying that the moral problem with the political system has occurred in the last three years. TBH it's at least thirty years old, and it's when politicians can get away with side-stepping a harsh truth about their policies and parry it with something irrelevant yet factual on some level. For example, Margaret Thatcher in the 'Prime MInisters Questions' slots would do this repeatedly by receiving a criticism from the leader of the opposition party and counter it with a vaguely-related, cherry-picked statistic that shows their party doing something good/better.
I think the only thing has changed is that the bottom has fallen out of all of these lies. Politicians are expected to be complete lying weasels. Trump is just an alt-weasel, just like the campaign for Brexit was. Many brexit voters thought they were sticking it to the government by voting leave, and many Trump supporters thought they were getting someone "who tells it like it is", ie. not a politician. TBH I think pretty much every Trump supporter knows on some level that he's a lying weasel, but that no longer matters: Every time Trump is caught lying, and every time another uncomfortable Brexit truth comes to the surface, whataboutism is the leading counter-argument, as if every river is a tributary of Shit Creek. If everyone is covered in shit already, then everyone looks the same, even if they're wearing a Nazi uniform beneath the shit.
What really worries me about the 'Shit Creek' analogy is this perception held by many that the 'end of days' is coming, ie. some kind of ending to civilisation. If enough people believe it, it will become reality, because it will shape their decision-making. Human civilisation is basically a very delicate house of cards.
