Give Away of the Day is offering a register cleaner today. I know nothing about this particular program, though.

Can anyone here define for me *exactly* what a registry cleaner does, and why I'd want to run it? Not a general "Well, it looks in the registry for old stuff and removes it", but a technical description of exactly what it does and why I'd want to run it?
For the OP: IMHO, I don't suggest running any registry cleaners. If there's a problem in your registry, you don't want some random program from some non-Microsoft random programmer fiddling with it.
What is the specific problem you wish to solve in running this registry cleaner?
"roblems with the Windows Registry are a common cause of Windows crashes and error messages. "
Registry problems can occur for many reasons, including references left behind after uninstallation; incorrect removal of software; missing or corrupt hardware drivers; or orphaned start-up programs.
his will significantly increase the Registry size and slow down your computer, because Windows will need more time to load, search, and read data from the Registry

Or you could just google the problem and try to fix it that way, which to me seems a far more intelligent manner of dealing with the problem!
