I totally agree.

I tells ya, you guys who think that they are repulsive....you must all be high on crack.

we had an african pygmy hedgehog, Zanabar, who we adopted from my wife's workplace (she's a zookeeper) when they retired him from doing educational shows. initially, he wasn't very friendly, and wasn't what i would call a good pet.

after about six months of being on a good diet, in a large cage, with toys and a wheel to run on, he had a totally different personality. he would respond to my voice when i'd come into his room (my office) - if he was sleeping, he'd wake up and run to the corner of his cage nearest my desk and snuffle around until i came over and picked him up. he would never ball up no matter how roughly i handled him, and was very friendly and inquisitive whenever someone would stop by. we'd always leave treats in little hiding spots, and he always knew which ones to check first.

i'm not saying they are great pets for everyone (they have specific environmental and nutritional requirements, and you should have a vet that is familiar with insectivores nearby, if possible) but they are not mice with spines....

/dunno why i just wrote all that.
