A creepy mystery. Give my your best theories.

Raconteur
True story, just in time for Halloween.

I live in a rural neighborhood amongst rednecks. Most of my neighbors are awesome. Some of them suck & like to litter up the road. As a result, most Saturdays I spend a little time picking up trash along our shared road.

This Saturday I noticed a large white trash bag way out in a woodsy section along the road, and assumed that the wind had blown it there. I went over to pick it up, and it was really heavy. The top of the bag wasn't closed real tight, so I looked inside... it was full of fresh-looking meat & bones. Right away it gave me a weird feeling. I've seen the locals throw out all sorts of really bizarre things on the side of the road, and therefore went ahead and dragged it to my truck, then off to the dump.

So consider the facts: someone intentionally parked their vehicle on the side of the road, then threw the bag of meat as far as possible into a secluded woodsy area where I guess they were hoping it wouldn't be found.

I've been a little creeped out ever since. I can't say for sure that I didn't just help dispose of a body. Realistically my best guess is that someone poached a deer, butchered it, then got rid of the evidence.

I have to confess that as I was driving to the dump on Saturday, I passed a parked Sheriff's vehicle; I very nearly stopped and showed it to him.

Did you wear gloves while handling the bag? If not...well...it's been nice knowin ya. On the other hand...You'll have 15-20 years to polish your writing skills...and work on the book.

Well, the Raconteur label fits.

I would have just called the cops and had them check it out to begin with.

I seriously wish I had done this... or just stopped and talked to the parked deputy. I'm not sure why I didn't - I guess its because I mostly believe the poached deer theory.

In seriousness, if it was a deer, did you look for anything in the general vicinity? If the guy did gut the thing right there, I'd imagine it would have been a bloody & hairy mess.

My theory is that you are a budding serial killer attempting to convince people that you "found" the bag.

Ok, one more detail which *I promise* is merely coincidental is that the trash bag in question was exactly the same style and type as those I use to pick up the road litter. Go figure.

I didn't see anything like that in the immediate area. And if he did it there, why bag up the leftovers?

Even a poached deer should be reported to the authorities. Not saying I wouldn't have done the same thing as you did, but it seems the appropriate response here would have been to leave that bag where you found it, inform the authorities, and be present when they are.

My best theory is that you helped dispose of a body. What kind of body, who knows. You'd think if someone was going to gut an animal, they'd just leave the remains to be picked at by scavengers.

Well the Georgia Patrol was a makin' their rounds,
So I fired a shot just to flag 'em down.
And a big-bellied sheriff grabbed his gun and said,
'Why'd ya do it?'

According to movies it is definitely late onset schizophrenia. Should probably check and make sure it wasn't your wife in the bag after your alternate personality killed her and disposed of her. Luckily for you shooting yourself in the throat will defeat the alternate personality, just make sure it's not a fatal blow. And, on the upside, you are now single. Look out ladies.

How close was this to Carl's house? (Or what ever the name is of your crazy neighbor)

You MIGHT have stumbled into his body drop field...

I also thought of this. Most hunters I know eviscerate the deer and leave the guts etc... in the woods.

And when you say the bag was "meat" do you mean resembling the organs most people dispose of like the heart, lungs, stomach, intestines etc...? Or was it actual flesh and muscle?
