I have a cable connection 512 K up / 50 down, I had this connection for a year now and I had not a single issue with it, it wasn't until mid February that things started going wrong!
Here is the deal, benchmarks at sites like dslreports show that my connection is a bit above the 512 K limit for down and ~ 50 for up.
I can download files at a very good speed, last time (a week ago) I downloaded the Fedora Core 5 ISO s all 5 CD s at 540 Kb/s steady! However web browsing is so sloooow.
It takes me usually 15 seconds to load any page, including AT.
I have 2 computers at home one connects via wifi and / or Ethernet (My Thinkpad R50e running Fedora Core 4) and another an IBM S50 Desktop that connects via Ethernet (running Fedora Core 5) .
My cable company replaced my modem 4 times now, they replaced all the wirings leading to my place, and they changed all connectors at home and outside, and the problem is still there.
I use a router and a surge-protector, but I get the same result when I hook my PC to the modem directly so neither the router nor the surge-protector are the culprit here.
My computers aren't the issue either as I have tested both of them at other places and not a single issue while web browsing, my cable company sent technicians over like 5 times now, they brought their own laptops with them and the same result appears.
They have ran diagnosis on all the connections and it all came out to be normal as they informed me, they even traced back the connection to their servers and couldn't find a problem either.
It's been a month now and I have told my cable company that I am not paying them a dime until they get the issue resolved, well they agreed to that, however the issue hasn't been resolved yet 🙁
So after all this info, what the hell could be the cause to my problems ?
Anyone can suggest some steps for me to take in order diagnose the issue here, as my cable company's technicians seem to lack the technical know how on how to fix the issue at hand and it's getting on my nerves as they are the only broadband ISP in my area :|.
Thanks in advance.
