Hello.

Later on this evening,i will be purchasing this 7970
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127652

Had a couple quick questions for any 7970 owners.

I did own that same exact before earlier this year,do to driver issues i got rid of it,but as that 7970 is a earlier oc moderl prior to the official ghz ones,is it possible this card could now have a locked voltage as i did hear some 7970 models did get locked down.

I had that card going well above 1200 core but found the sweet spot about 1150 which i will clock it to,just concerned if perhaps many of the older non ghz cards could be locked down now?

Also with the current beta 8 12.11 cat drivers, what kinda performance would the 7970 offer in BF3 at 1080p?

Picking that specific model do to size, pass good experience with ocing and its the cheapest 7970 on newegg at $390.

You should be able to max out settings on any monitor and still stay over 30fps with a 7970 with newest drivers. I have no experience with that particular brand, but my 7970 Ghz was voltage locked.

get the Sapphire HD 7970 OC (1 ghz) or gigabyte HD 7970 OC (1 Ghz). the cooler on these cards is much better than the msi card you chose. you can easily clock these cards to 1050 - 1100 Mhz at stock voltage.

For 1080p you don't need anything more. HD 7970 at 1.05 Ghz will chew through BF3 single player and multiplayer

"To test Battlefield 3 Multiplayer we found the best environment was on the map Caspian Border in the Conquest Large game type. We chose servers that had a low ping and made sure the server was heavily populated with between 60 and 64 players.

For our BF3 Multiplayer run through we spawn in the US base and took a jeep to Point "D" or "Hilltop." Once we arrived we circled the top of the hill counter clockwise fighting off enemies. After 5 minutes we stopped our testing procedure"

A 7970 ghz at 1080p 4x msaa should offer you 60-120 fps in single player. 60-80 min. Avg 100-120 or so.

@Raghu78 , Is the $380 sapphire voltage locked?

Looking for something in the $380-$390 area as that's my budget, the msi i picked is the shortest 7970 and would be a sure fit in my antec 300 but would consider the sapphire model if it has a guarantee voltage unlock.

If both at voltage locked,i would much prefer a blower fan card to exhaust the hot air.
