wondering about HDD scanning, if i can tell if it has bad sectors, or what not.

and i JUST built my computer, and it runs likes bolt, but it will randomly on occasion freeze up. Don't know what the correlation is to it, just for a moment, perhaps...20 seconds, then go back to normal, but this happens.... On an average of 4 times a day, not a crowd pleaserrr.

thanks

Some could be locking up the CPU. Software that is not playing nice or hardware related

I have a system that will lock up for 1-2 seconds. During that time; I hear the fan spooling up.

Chkdsk will be just fine for checking the disk for bad sectors. And if Windows is having problems reading the disk it'll write entries to the eventlogs.

Download process monitor here:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx
The first thing you are going to want to do when you run it is go to file and uncheck capture events. If you leave it checked it consumes so many resources capturing everything the pc is doing that you can't change some settings. Enable it later.

Go to filter menu , click filter
In the drop down menu, change architecture to event class
Leave the next spot selected as is
Next spot select file system
next spot leave it include
click add
click ok

Under edit menu click clear display
Under file click capture events

Now every time anything access the HD you will see it here.
Try to find out what is monopolizing drive time.
Most people are shocked to learn how much windows access the drive.
