okay, before i get started here's my system specs:

750Mhz Duron
Abit KT7Raid Mobo
256Meg Crucial Ram
6 Gig WD HD
Asus V7100t GF2MX w/ tv out
SB PCI 128 Sound Card
Linksys 10/100 NIC
Win XP Pro

i don't think i'm leaving anything out (i just got this computer from a buddy 2 days ago, so I'm not super familiar with it yet)

Anyways, my problems go something like this:

I bought this box off of my friend to use in my living room as a Divx/VCD/Mp3 box. I put my old GF2MX in there, cause i've used the TV-Out on it a ton, and it always worked fine. I put the new Detonators on it (40.41 i think) cause i read that the nView2 has alot of stuff to kill the flicker on tv-out. The picture looks decent (i'm just running into an old 19" now in my computer room till i get everything setup the way i want). It's running at 800x600 right now. That makes it really hard to read the text on the tv. However, the slide in the display settings won't let me bump it down to 640x480. I put some old detonators on there (28.32's or something) and it let me set it at 640 or 800, but the screen flicker was awful. I know that XP tries to set you display for optimale performance (sp?) and if you do that, it won't let you go down to 640x480. Well, i didn't do that with the 28's and i could set it at 640, and i tried the same with the det40's, but i can't get it down to 640x480. Any ideas?

Also, this is kinda related (sorta). The computer is running just fine..except movie playback. I have tried watching DVD's, divx, vcd's, and even some music vids i ripped of MTV2. They will NOT play. They won't play on the monitor, or on the tv, and i have tried WMP, Global Divx Player, and PowerDVD. The movie starts to load, and before i even see a picture the program locks up. I'm really puzzled about that one. I'm wondering if i need to install any via updates or bios updates or something along them lines.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

THANKS!

okay....a follow up and what i've done so far tonight

i kinda gave up on getting the res. down to 640x480, but I'm still getting the same problems when playing any movies....and i mean ANY. I flashed the bios to the most current version, and i just put the new via 4.42 4in1's on there, but still no luck. In wmp for example, i loaded up a slipknot video. The title of the video came up, but then the video never starts playing, and eventually wmp crashes. I am running out of ideas. Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

okay.....here's my latest progress.

after a clean install of win xp, i'm still having the same problems..........sort of (with playing videos)

any video i try to play will start playing eventually (after anywhere from 3 seconds to 4 minutes). The video will play for about 3 seconds, then it takes about 10 seconds for the video to buffer and resume playing. These aren't videos i'm trying to play from the web either. I have an mpeg and avi (both around 40 megs) sitting on my hard drive. I'm hoping this helps someone narrow in on what could be the problem. I'm messing around with bios settings now, but i haven't got anything solved yet...please help!
