A couple of stupid linux questions

I was doing some poking around, and saw a beta driver for my modem, so I went ahead and installed linux (mandrake 8.1) install went flawlessly. I download the beta rpm, and un rpmed it or what ever you do to a rpm, it said I had to run hcfconfig, which I did, and then it told me that it wasn't compiled for my kernal and that it would try and recompile if I told it were the compiler stuff was, I'm like duh!!, I haven't complied anything sice I took a cobol class along time ago, so I am a lot out of my league here. So here is the question, should I just wait till mandrake or somebody else includes supporrt on install or when the final release version comes out will it support most kernals? I was going fine until it wanted to recompile.

Q2, where would I look for the drivers to drive my ATI AIW 128 proany suggestions, the card itself works fine just looking to drive the rest.

Thanks for the help todd

As for the modem driver, try a tarball file (.bz), and compile from it. (A lot more dependable IMHO) On the ATI card, the drivers should already be there. It's the setup you have to worry about. 😀 (DRI, MESA) I don't know the exact way to setup an ATI since I'm using GF's on my *NIX boxes. Bump. 😛
