A couple of questions about a quiet video card...

Hi all,

I currently have an ATI x1650 pro which is getting a little flaky - it has 2 DVI outputs that I have connected to two flatscreens which both have DVI and DSUB inputs.

I'm looking to get a new card - is there a card that would perform better than this one but that has passive cooling? I'm not into heavy gaming or anything, but I don't want to go backwards in performance.

Also, I've been looking at some cards that have a dvi and a dsub instead of 2 dvi's... am I going to see a reduction in quality on one of the monitors if I hook it up via the dsub connecter? DVI is better isn't it?

Thanks!

I see a lot of 4350s with passive coolers for under $20. Not the best performance, but good enough for HD movies and light gaming. No idea how it compares to an old card like a 1650 pro. If money isn't a big issue you can get a passive 5750 which will play almost everything. Something like this:

What's wrong with using an adapter if you need dsub? You won't find many modern cards with that natively anymore and DVI is better if your monitor can use it.

5450's are out now, but I dont know if any have dual DVI ports. Most I have seen are dvi, vga, and display port

I wanted to keep it as cheap as possible - maybe $40 or under...? I had been watching the 4350 deals go by, but I think that cards slower than the 1650 I have now - the throughput on that is 8gb/s and the 1650 is listed as 22gb/s - unless throughput isn't the measure to be using...

If the 4350 is slower than the x1650 then I think HD5670 or the Nvidia equivalent would be your only option. However, those cards aren't cheap. I
