A couple of P4C800-E problems

I just built a system with the P4C800-E Deluxe board, and I have a couple of problems. I'm sure I've seen them both mentioned on here before, but I just searched through the threads and couldn't find anything.

First, I'm getting system freezes, accompanied by the HDD LED on the case being constantly on. These seem to mostly occur when there's a lot of disk activity going on (eg installing from CD), but I've also had one while idling in Windows. It hasn't yet happened when I've had an application running. I have a 120Gb Seagate 7200rpm SATA drive connected through the ICH5R controller; is it worth moving it to the Promise controller and seeing if that makes a difference, or is the problem likely to be elsewhere?

Second, the onboard LAN doesn't seem to be working. I suspect this is a software rather than hardware problem: I've installed the drivers etc and Windows seems happy, recognizes the device, etc. I tried to use it at a LAN last weekend, but when I connect to the switch, no flashy lights, can't connect to anyone else's computers. I assumed it would just work straight off; are there some other settings I need to fiddle with?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

System:
Asus P4C800-E Deluxe
P4 2.8Ghz
2 x 512Mb Corsair XMS 3200 TwinX
Seagate Barracuda 120Gb SATA
Enermax 460W PSU
Hercules 3D Prophet 9800 Pro
LiteOn DVD
LiteOn CD-RW
Hercules Fortissimo III sound card
Windows 2000 Professional

I agree with bacillus about setting your DDR Voltage to 2.75v--I had the same issue with that RAM and motherboard. I've also had an issue with the LAN adapter--I get link lights, it seems to be sending and receiving packets, but I cannot communicate with any other PCs over TCP/IP. Very odd. Like you, I also have an Enermax PSU and Radeon 9800 Pro, and while I tend to doubt either of those components could be responsible, I've had zero luck fixing the issue, so at this point I'd consider just about anything.

Hope this helps with your stability issue, and if you have any luck with your onboard NIC, shoot me an e-mail.

Thanks,

In Windows network connections you should see a local area connection for the Intel Pro/1000. I have a P4C800-E as well. After I installed the Intel LAN software and drivers, the connection automatically appeared. I didn't have to do anything else.

I had a few problems with my mouse suddenly freezing. But the problems seem to have gone away. I had originally disabled USB Legacy Support in the BIOS. I now have it enabled. I also have USB 2.0 Controller Mode switched to HiSpeed.
