A couple Audiovox Thera questions...

Two quick questions:

Are Audiovox Thera PDA Phones (that run Win Pocket PC 2002) usable as a standalone PDA without phone service? I can get one dirt cheap and have no desire to activate the service, just use it as a pocket PC for some international backpacking I'm considering... seems much better than lugging around / worrying over a full laptop...

Also, to that end: any experiences using SD WiFi cards on these?

Hopefully someone here has firsthand experience in this situation... Thanks.

(didn't know if this quite fit in SFF/Barebones, so put here...)

Yes, you can use it as a PPC standalone, but it's a really slow PPC. Look for a PPC with WPPC 2003 and at least 400mhz.

Thanks for the info. Cost is the driving factor here--for the price of newer PPCs I'd be hard pressed not to just buy an Inspiron 1000 for like $500 and say to hell with the size difference.

Unless you know where I can score a WPPC 2003 for under $100, then I'd be in business :) I only need something that can support a WiFi card for the occasional dump from camera / upload of pics via hotspot back to my FTP server at home (I think I found some serviceable FTP clients). And check mail... And MAYBE read the occasional e-book. Other than that, performance is not an issue... the unit probably would never see daylight otherwise.

I think a Libretto 100ct or an HP Omnibook 800ct (not as small but can be had cheaper) might be a better fit for me.
