When your horse is dead, beat it. Byrd denounced his own racist past. Conservatives have yet to denounce their own racist present.

Agreed. Most of this stuff is simply misspeaking. If one insists that Rick Perry believes we had a revolution in the sixteenth century, one is also honor-bound to insist that Obama thinks there are fifty-eight states.

The proper response is just to laugh, whichever side says dumb stuff.
