A computer desk for a GDM FW 900?

I am having a very difficult time finding a desk and/or table --- of any sort --- that I can use for a GDM FW-900 (weighs about 98 lbs). I need one without impediment in the foot-well (to place pedals for driving sims and/or leg room).

I had been using a round (very) sturdy wooden dining table for a number of years but for variousu reasons need somethign new --- have looked at hundreds of desks/tables -- anythign with a pedestal is a no-go. Even looked at heavy-duty work-benches etc...coming up empty.

Any ideas from fellow GDM FW 900 owners?...yes I know we are a dying breed, just hoping for a link or two...thanks.

I had to google to find out what sort of beast this was - it's a 24" CRT monitor!

Just curious : why would you not rather upgrade to a 24" (or even bigger) LCD flat screen monitor that would be much lighter in weight?

As for your search : what is making any other regularly well-built desk come up short - the weight itself cannot be a big problem, as I'm sure there are desks out there that can support 98lbs, heavy as that might be?

I do have a 27" TN panel for "modern" games -- but still fire up the ol' GDM from time-to time for win 98 games. Sure there are plenty of desks/tables etc... but nearly none of them post weight capacity (and everythign these days is built for lap tops and LCD panels) and I don't want to pull the trigger on a desk that cost a few hundred if it can't handle the weight --- I guess I'll have to go to brick and motor stores and kick the tires (ahem, legs) on some desks/tables and see what I can find.

Ashley Furniture sells some desks that are built like a table with square posts for legs. They are really strong and sturdy looking. 98 pounds is not really that heave for a solid build table. Just go look at some yard sales or used furniture stores. You might also go to some auctions.

This desk is pretty solid and is quite deep at 31". It's all solid wood and should last a while.

As others have said though, ~100lbs isn't really that much for any reasonably constructed desk or table. Think of it this way, if you are comfortable sitting on it, the desk is more than strong enough.

Actually, if a 14 year old can sit on it, it is strong enough. A computer desk does not need to be extremely robust - unlike a chair, a desk does not undergo all sorts of lateral stress.

This sparse desk can hold upto 300 lbs, so I could even sit on it with the CRT 🙂!

This one looks even sturdier, but frankly, you should be able to get one of those regular office desks on craigslist for 40 bucks and not look back.
