A colleague just got LASIK

I don't know all the details, but it seems that her cornea was too thin. (I don't know why they didn't determine this before the surgery).

She says she can see okay, with the contact lenses they gave her to wear.

She has to go back to the doctor every other day for a week or two.

Anyone hear of anything like this before?

I hadn't heard of such, but a thin cornea is the #1 reason they do a prelim exam.

Same here Gigapet... Cubicle mate just got it done last Wednesday... he loves it, reccomends it to everyone...

I know of a handful of people that have had it done with no complications and great results. Sorry to hear this happened though. It is always sad to see people lose on of their 5 senses.

yea she should never have had it done in the first place. they are supposed to measure your cornea multiple times before the procedure...sometimes it seem like they give the go head regardless jsut to get the patients money. Sucks for her...if I were her I'd be contacting a lawyer for a potential lawsuit.

whenever i get the money i will get it done. i just dont like taking my contacts out once a month and the problems possible with them.

She went for the el cheapo surgery. Examination in the morning, surgery in the afternoon.

Plus, she had it done 2 1/2 hrs from home, so going back and forth isn't going to be a picnic.

I warned her but....

thats the risk you take though...you sign a waiver... if the procedure was done properly and the cornea complication was minimal (after a review from other M.D.'s) then she's up shits creek.

They told me I would need a ride home afterwards and should take a nap for a few hours. They also told me I couldn't do the regular Lasik, but that I needed some other Accuvue or something which would map each of my eyes individually but will also get better results. And it is also a couple thousand more....go figure. Let the saving begin...

Budget-oriented surgeries just scream "DANGER" to me.

What place did she go? exam in the morning and surgery later that day. That just sounds bad. I atleast waited 24 hours.

THis is why getting a laser shot into my eye just doesnt sit well with me......

I'm sure ages ago people had a problem with taking bacteria as medicine...but then penicilin had a huge impact on medicine

it might seem absurd at first, but that's how medicine evolves!
