Two fatalities last night on the main street just behind my house. Younger driver in a Scion tC going 80mph in a 40 zone at 6:30pm on a street with heavy traffic leading to the local mall. Clipped a minivan, lost control, spun into oncoming traffic was nailed by another car. Passenger killed on impact, driver died later at the hospital after receiving CPR on scene.

Silly stuff and something no family should have to deal with much less during this time of the year.

In the Tacoma area? Happened down the road a few months ago, what a coincidence.

I know how you feel. I went into work about 5 years ago and saw the CTO of the company laying dead 1/2 way out of the elevator with the door opening and closing on his body and a secretary trying to do CPR on him.

He was 3 days from retirement too. Poor guy :( I still feel terrible for him to this day.

From TFA:

Strom was estimated to be traveling at 75 mph.

Massagli attempted to pass Strom near a passing lane, crossing over double yellow lines and entering the northbound lane of Highway 70.

Wow. Pure idiocy.

Shit happens...usually VERY fast.

I commuted into the bay area for many years. People drive stupid...and usually way too fast for conditions.
Condolences to the family

I did some crane jobs around Beale. We used to watch the U-2's take off and land.

life is a trip, my mom works at a tow truck place, about 10 years ago a driver was on his last day before retiring. He has been driving tow trucks for most of his adult life. He was down to a few calls before he called it quits for good, and a car ran into his truck while he was hooking a car up to be towed and killed him in the process. To think he was a few hours away from being able to enjoy the rest of his life is so sad.

When an idiot attempts to pass you in a dangerous manner, do you slow down to let him by, or do you maintain/speed up?

My condolences. Knowing both people involved must make it worse, as well.

don't let the 15 seconds you can save cost you forever....

That's a lesson I think lots of people need to remember better, myself included.

Oddly enough I live in the Tacoma area and had a coworker hit a dear on his bike a few months back as well... he came out without a scratch.

Sorry to hear about your co-worker OP
