Yeah, I saw that story just now. Those Gulfstreams don't fly too well with only one wing. Sad news for the families.

Luck of the draw?????

No luck on any sort, it seems a clear case of pilot error. I don't think the pilot wanted to tell his boss that he wasn't able to land and pick up President Bush I. So he goes below published weather minimums and hits an obstruction.

The luck of the draw pertains to the flight crew that was chosen to ferry this flight.

Their luck ran out unexpectedly.

The plane crash could just have easily happened during take-off after boarding.

They probably would have been just as pro-actively motivated for taking off in
substandard conditions as they were in landing in them.

I read about a plane crash in Houston this morning but think much about it until I read this.
