A class-action lawsuit against...Blockbuster???

I just walked into the local Blockbuster today to pick up a video, and along with the normal receipt I got an extra 2-foot-long receipt. Here's some excerpts:

"If you paid an extended viewing or non-return fee...you are a member of a proposed Settlement Class...relating to extended viewing and nonreturn fees paid for videos and other rental items."

"...class members will receive compensation in the form of certificates...if class members paid extended viewing fees between April 1, 1999 and April 1, 2001...worth approximately $9, $13, and $20..."

Myself, I always return videos on time 😀. Has anyone heard anything about this?

Haven't heard anything, & I rent there quite frequently. Used to be three movies every weekend, but work/school cut down on that a lot.

I've had a few late fees, so maybe I'll get something back.

😕

Not real sure what the problem is, though, as I was clearly at fault.

<<DALLAS (AP) - Blockbuster Inc. (NYSE:BBI - news) is moving aggressively to settle nearly two dozen class-action lawsuits filed by customers who accuse the chain of charging exorbitant fees for overdue videos.>>

Sorry gittyup, guess you beat me to it. 😉

<< Dallas-based Blockbuster, the world's largest video-rental chain, has denied any wrongdoing but is offering to give out coupons with a face value of about $460 million in discounts for movie rentals and merchandise.

They also say they won't change the late-fee policy that led to the lawsuits, and that has critics howling.

This is too freakin' weird...I mean, Blockbuster has the right to charge whatever they want for late fees. If people don't like 'em, they can just go to Hollywood Video or Albertsons even.

Another ridiculous example of stupid lawsuits filed by people who refuse to take responsibility for their own actions. Slimeball lawyers get nearly $10 million, whiny, crybaby customers get a coupon.
