A Christmas Story

It's full of spellign mistakes and plot holes but it is true. I am sort of sleepy so hopefully it makes sense. Oh, and if you want cliffnotes, I have this big novelty-sized 10ft candy cane that you can have; PM so I can tell you were to shove it.

"A MASSIVE FESTIVAL OF FOOD AND DELCASY...NOT TO BE MISSED...THE EVENT OF THE HOLIDAY SEASON"

That was pretty much the way Christmas Dinner was described to me. It was to be fantastic. My dad would buy a turkey. There would be tons of guests. It would be great.

You know how in the ?A Christmas Story? movie the diner doesn?t go as planned?
Same thing happened here.

I got there and there was a gold Turkey-looking thing. There was also a Styrofoam container filled with cold beans, one with salad, and another with rice. Still, struggling to heat it all with my uncles somewhat ?sparse? assortment of kitchen utensils [only one spoon, not enough plates, no napkins etc.] it resulted in a great meal with family.

Ironically, we had a bit of fun heating it up, joking about how lame it was that we were heating the bread with the lid from a pot and such.

The food turned out excellent. Somehow our ?magic? touch provided me and my uncles with more than enough to eat. Christmas would have been a disaster, but we pitched together and made a very nice evening out of it.

After the dinner, my Dad arrived. Things happened; information was divulged, etc, and the Christmas holiday seemed destined for oblivion.

And then came the glimmer of hope that would salvage my expectations.
My uncle Eli had almost died.
No one had told me.
He informed me.
I was shocked.

He had taken the Metro Bus and was on his way to work when some fool in a car went through a stop sign.

The car was going so fast that it cut the bus in two. A friend of my uncles that was on the bus and didn?t get hurt later told him that he had been thrown like a rag doll into one of the buses interior handrail-pillars.

My uncle eventually woke up after no one helped him, and walked around dazed. He had broken his nose; his face was messed up and covered in blood. He stumbled around.

There was a crowd forming around the car that had hit them as it was on fire and the occupant?s legs were broken and he was trapped inside. No one helped.

Dazed and confused, my uncle got a hold of a hose and put out the fire.
Someone else took credit for it when the news crews showed up.

I sat back and thought about what he had just told me. Every bit of anger towards my dad just went away, I felt privileged sitting down next to such a great man.

I had felt such pain when my Dad had disappointed me this weekend though his words and actions, but after seeing the humility that my uncle showed towards aggressors, I couldn?t help but smile and his simple greatness. He lives modestly in a small apartment with his brother, and is the most honorable man I have yet to meet.

This Christmas was one to remember.

This is my uncle and some of the people he meets on a daily basis. Needless to say, these are only a few of the people he has met, and he defintiely deserves it:

He is a Nurse who treats wounded U.S. Soldiers everyday🙂
