Hello Folks,

I am planning on building a Rig. I am a Noob, so go easy.

Currently i run an extremely obsolete Pentium 4 based setup. (Got an i5 Laptop) . Need to replace this urgently.

Will be using PC for Moderate gaming : FPS & RPG's. Crysis, CoD, PoP etc 720P

Majorly used for internet surfing, music & movies.

Budget is INR 20,000-25,000 (1 US$ = 55 INR)

Will be buying everything from Mumbai India, Flipkart.com & ebay.in or a Local Vendor.

I want Intel i5 thats all :biggrin:

Current Equipment that will be reused:

Samsung Monitor (1280 * 1024) , Creative 2.1 speakers, Keyboard, Mouse,
WD Caviar Green 1 TB Desktop Internal Hard Drive (WD10EARX) bought recently.
Transcend external USB Powered DVDRW.

Am planning on overclocking this system in the future.

I do not want to invest in a Graphics card at this point because of budget constraints. I Believe HD 4000 will be enough for most of my uses(For Now).

Monitor Resolution : 1280*1024.

I want to build the rig by this weekend, its that URGENT

Got software discs with me.

My reference system is: $ 1000 Gaming parts.

Here are my questions:

1) I am planning on getting an i5 3570k because I am planning on future proofing the system. With overclocking I want to play the newest games on HD 4000 itself at decent FPS( Too Much to ask for ?? ).
I want to Connect a GFX Card in the future for good fps. Do I really need a 3570k??

2) Is an Intel Manufactured MoBo any good or do I have to buy an ASUS, MSI etc for overclocking? Choices are limited:

3) Will the stock CPU Fan that comes with the Processor be good enough when Overclocking? If No, then what can i buy?

What type of cooling will be required?? Is air cooling sufficient?? The room in which i am placing the rig has no Air conditioning. It gets hot in India. :biggrin:

Once again, we have a request for the fabled $500 gaming PC. This one's $450, actually, so that might be worse. Do you have a copy of Windows you can use, or do you need to buy that too?

1. Intel i5 ain't gonna happen on this budget. Realize that a desktop i3-3220 is similar to your laptop's i5; probably faster.

Gaming on the integrated graphics of an Intel chip won't work well either. Crysis is commonly referred to as a tough test of a GPU. Though there are several halfway-decent discrete GPUs you could get. Be sure to get one with GDDR5 RAM. You'll probably wind up with a 7750 or 7770; or maybe a used 6800-series GPU.

2. Mobo depends on your budget. If you expect to come into enough cash to buy a chip that can overclock, you can get a cheap Z77. Otherwise, get a B75 if you can, or the cheapest H61 you can find and an i3-2120 if you run out of money otherwise.

3. An i3 will be fine on the stock cooler, even in India.

4. One 4GB stick of RAM is minimal. Look for 1.5V RAM or lower.

5. An SSD is not essential. Any SATA drive you can find will work, though avoid "green"/5400RPM drives if you can.

6. Depends on your GPU, but probably nothing fancy. A Corsair CX430 would power most low-end cards.

7. Hardly matters, as long as it has at least one fan.

Yes its too much to ask for. Have a look at Anands review here.

If you are looking for cheap 720p gaming, you really should look at the high-end AMD APUs (A10-5700/5800K). They will not run the newest games at highest detail, but they will run them...

I will stretch my budget for an i5. I have all the software CD's s thats not a problem.

The integrated i5 3570k and Intel Mobo I am getting for 19000 INR. Is it a good board SL50K Z77 ?

Then forget about gaming for now, will invest in a card later. Right now i need to get the rig up and running!

I'll get 4 GB RAM.

Read about how 2500k is a better OC than 3570k.

Should I get 2500k? I only plan on OC in the future when I get a good GFX Card.

A core i3 with a 7850 will beat a core i5 with 560 in most of the games

And a core i3 with a 7770 will beat a core i5 with a 550 ti in practically any situation.

You need to take it like this.

Can you afford a 10k Mobo plus 2500k/3570k plus 7850 (not 560ti not 7770) together? And at least 8gb ram. If yes then good. If not then the first thing to take out is the CPU and Mobo.

2500k or 3570k for 14k is ok

7850 - I am not planning on buying it now. Will buy after 5-6 Months. Price will come down or better newer cards will be out. I am assuming they will be compatible with the Mobo.

8GB RAM - 3.5 K is ok

SMPS 4k is ok Corsair 500 W

Cabinet 1k

Total = 30k Approx

After 6 months price of 7850 may or may not fall. And newer cards will possibly be 18-22k or so which replace this and may take longer perhaps. So that means no gaming for 6 months. Better to buy the system later and go for haswell.

well i dont know alot about amd fx series but its looks good and cheaper price and it gives you double the config vs. i5 2500k or 3770k.
it has 8 CORES, 16 MB CACHE MEMORY, 3.6 GHz with Maximum Turbo Speed of 4.2 GHz, 125 W MAX TDP, Integrated Graphics.... everything just around 12 K - 15 K

MB: good, the Asrock Z77 Pro3 or Pro4 is a good choice too.
RAM: good. But if you want to save a bit, get the cheapest DDR3-1600 kit available...
Cooler: The included Intel stock cooler is good enough.
PSU: DON'T cheap out on this. Its the most important component in the system. The Corsair CX430 or Antec Earthwatts 380W are two solid budget offers.

Forget about the FX. Its about the same performance as the 3570K, but has lower single thread performance and higher power consumption. It also does NOT have an integrated GPU...

The only FX CPU I'd recommend is the 6300. But only for very specific use... :whiste:

I am planning on buying a 500W Cooler Master Thunder 500W 500 Watts PSU. Hope that is enough for OC i5 and 1 GFX Card (eg 7770).

Remember we are only talking about a 77W CPU here. My own i7-3770 only consumes ~77W at 4.3GHz. At default clocks (3.4-3.9GHz) it pulls ~69W full load. So its not a massive amount of heat that needs to be removed. That said I guess it can get a little warmer in India (wouldn't mind if you send a few degrees C up here... ). I don't know if you can get it, but the Coolermaster Hyper 212+ is an excellent budget-friendly cooler...

A good quality 500W is more then enough to run an overclocked i5 + GFX card. The only reason you'd need more power is if you run an SLI or Crossfire setup.

I thought your goal was "Will be using PC for Moderate gaming : FPS & RPG's. Crysis, CoD, PoP etc 720P". If that's still true, I don't see why you're so set on the 3570K. If you really can jump the budget by another 10k, then you should spend that on the GPU instead of trying to get an overclockable CPU.

The GPU will increase your gaming performance by about 10 times, while an overclockable CPU would maybe get you a 1.5 times improvement. So you should get my build as I specified but add the 7770 GHz edition for Rs. 9.6K and call it a day.
