How big is the test? what is in it? and is it real hard? I know there are other posts on this, but i dont want to view other peoples threads. I went to Borders and i saw that the A+ help books are HUGE, so is this test hard and big?

No its not really hard at all. Its like the bottom rung on and the ladder of certifications. If you have any win/dos experience and some basic hardware diagnostic knowledge, its easy.

Not too hard, defientely more stuff in the book than on the test.
I flew by it, but then again, I studied 3 hours a day for a week after my course.

If you do buy a book set for the A+ make sure it will cover the new test that is starting January 1st 2001

A+ is easy for a majority of the people on this web site because this is a hardware web site, and well A+ is about hardware.

However somepeople do have trouble memorizing the 15 IRQ settings (16 if you include 0), however that may be trivia to some, to others it can be quite the 'burden', i know a few people who have taken the A+ and they had a hell of a time momorizing the IRQ and DMA charts.

To each their own, however you should have some basic background knowledge before you take it.

do a search for A+ a couple million hits will come up... its VERY common

A+ took me no more than 25 minutes to take. I just had to remember some old win3.1 crap and that's it. Find a diagram on how laser printers work on the net somewhere, and study that. It's cake.

I took the A+ four years ago, I am curious, do they still have mac questions? From my experiance, when the damn cert meant anything, the test was REAL simple. I never studied for it. Took it to get a job.

I waz considering taking A+ test, but i waz eventually discourage because of the giant $$$ needed to just take the test and take home a paper that just means i'm not a complete computer idiot.

I took the A+ test almost a year ago. I completed all 140 questions plus the survey in about 45 minutes, and passed it with flying colors. If you know your way around DOS and win3.11/9x it's a walk in the park.
I read some books about A+ "just to be sure" but I found that a lot of the things covered in the books (like almost everything about printer repairs) was not covered in the test.

If you don't include '0' automatically when counting anything computer related (so you just say there are 16 IRQ's then have to always explain why it ends on 15) then you probably shouldn't be working with computers. :)
