If the MODS want to move or change go ahead, sorry. 🙁

THANKS

depends on what your computer history consists of. I took A+ years ago, maybe 97? Not sure how the tests are today, but it's still 2 tests. hardware + OS/software. I've been on PC's since I was 4 *32 now* the tests wern't overly hard at all. But, I went in with a big ego and didn't study well for the hardware and failed it the first time 🙂 Do you understand hardware basis and stuff about IRQ/DMA all that? Not sure the latest tests still touch on that stuff, but I'm willing to bet they do somewhat. The Software test was easy to me. And once I studied up a bit, the hardwear one was a breeze too.

I remember it having quite a few DOS questions, which I doubt still are as previlent in the new tests.

Best thing about A+, once you pass, you're certified for life. People will say "A+ ain't that great" it's no MCSE, but it's still a good basic cert to have, and is fairly simple, and cheap to get.

I have a lot of experience, I understand just about all of it, but I'm limited to my actual grasp on the full defintion on these, technically speaking.

I guess you'd say I have more the layman's approach to it, not Bill, lol. 😉

ALOHA

Here was my problem approaching the Hardware test, I knew everything on it at one point or another. But when it asked what the default IRQ/address for parallel port 1 was. I was like "uhhh.... duuuh!" I feel you on knowing the stuff but not having a grasp on the real techie side. You're best bet would be look for a sample test online. It's not overly hard for an experinced person. But they will ask thing you probably haven't done/thought about in ages. And some really detailed questions, and a couple trick questions that seem simple and you might get wrong if you don't read carefully.

the tests are like $115 a pop so you probably don't want to be stupid like me and take it to see how hard it will be. Studying never hurt. A+ is good, also look into N+ and Inet+ if you want. CompTIA has some decent certs. I wanna get N+ but I'm too lazy to study 🙂
