I passed the OS test a few months ago, and I still need to take the hardware test to get certified. How long do I have to take it? Do I need to do it by a certain date to avoid having to re-take the OS test?

I'm pretty sure you have to take the second test within a certain amount of time in order to get your A+ cert. I'm not aware of what that time frame is, though. Call Prometric. They should know.
Yes, i believe its either 30 days or 90 days. Could be wrong though, but there is DEFINATELY a limit, also, they are redoing the A+ in the nextcoming months, which might make your ONE test invalid, which would suck. Definately call prometric, NOW!

Anyway, I just took/passed the Hardware portion and was told that I had to pass the OS portion within six months. YMMV. What'd you think of the OS portion? I was worried about the Hardware portion but it turned out easier than all of the practice exams I was taking. Actually, I was worried about throwing $140 away, but hey, it all worked out alright in the end.

From their FAQ:
Do I take both exams at once or at separate times?
You can do either. Most choose to take their exams at separate times. The exams are updated periodically and you have until the next update to take the second exam.
By update, they mean by the time the part (whichever you have yet to take) is "retired" or "changed"...
A+ Certification Upgrade Information
Because technology changes, so do our exams. The CompTIA A+ exam will be upgraded in the late third quarter to early fourth quarter (exact date has yet to be determined) of 2003, but you can study for and take both the current A+ 2001 exams now or choose to take one exam now and the second exam after the 2003 upgrade goes into effect.
That took me all of 2 minutes to find out... come on now...

Wait, but doesn't that say that you can take one of the old exams now, and then take the other "new" exam after the change? Doesn't that contradict the first statement?
You do need to pass the hardware part within a period of time, but I don't remember how long. Once you obtain A+ it does not expire.
