A Case Cleaning Can Work Wonders...

Just last night I took apart my system and got rid of all the dust in it. I removed all hardware from the sockets (Except the CPU because I have no more thermal paste and couldn't re-apply once removing the heatsink) and cleaned the sockets as well. I cleaned inside my floppy drive and PSU. As well, I taped all the cords inside my case to the side paneling to improved airflow as much as possible. Also, I put WD40 in the case fans and CPU fan to quiet them down and keep them spinning as fast as possible. WOW. What a difference it made for my system temps. The delta between my CPU and case temp at full load has dropped from 20C to about 14C. A 6C drop in temps! Then, an additional drop in temps occurs from my case not being so much higher than room temp. Another 3-5C, though it is a little harder to give a definite number for this because I don't always know the room temp in here. Anyway, I just wanted to say that it made a huge difference and I will be trying to overclock my system to new heights as I slowly burn in... Everyone go clean your case, you'll be happy you did. =)

I agree totally I wanted to upgrade to some round ide cables and when I opened the machine it was pretty nasty. I used a compressor with a filter so there was no condensation. I sprayed all the crap off my fans and all the crap outa the case. It doesnt help that I smoke in the room! I am going to try to stop smoking altogether and hopefully my lungs and computer will both thank me! 🙂 BTW The round cables are awsome! Easy to manuver and now I dont have to unplug my harddrive to upgrade my memory! 🙂

Yeah, I already had round cables, but taping cables to the side panels still makes a difference. I can't wait until serial ATA. Those cables are more like the audio cables that connect sound cards to CD-ROM drives.
