A/C no longer blowing out cool air in my Explorer..

I used to fill up the gas guzzler about once every 5 weeks over the course of several months, and rarely used the A/C..which I guess may have contributed to it dying out.

How much will/should it cost to fix?

of course if it is a frozen AC pump the cost could be around 1500 or so.

you best get someone to diagnose it. Hope you have a warranty!

Depends on what's wrong.

I had the A/C stop working in my old car, went to get it recharged and it turned out I had a hole in the compressor.

Well to anyone who cares, I got a price quote of about $134 to fix it..

That is exactly half the price of my replacement driver's side mirror. Just the mirror, no labor.

I take it they just need to refill it?

Did you take it in and have it inspected? Or was that a phone quote?
MOST likely, (if they're reputable) they'll do a full A/C service. Leak test it with a dye to find the leaks, then IF it's ok, and just low, or only has a small leak) recharge it. Be glad it doesn't take R-12...that stuff is about $75/lb nowdays. R-134 is pretty cheap. One of my cars has a bad seal on the compressor shaft. About $700-$1000 (parts & labor) to replace it, (87 BMW 735i) but it will hold a charge for about 2 yrs, so I live with that. It was converted to R134 several years ago, so I don't have to bite the bullet for R-12...

You say that as if R12 is expensive. It's really not that much.

Yeah he said he was going to put flourescent type stuff in it, and put in some R-134. There was a lot of techincal jargon involved but I've been to this guy for years now and I trust him..

You can buy an R12 to R134 conversion kit pretty inexpensively.

Like they said above... maybe it needs to be recharged...
Or, maybe there's a mouse in there clogging it. 😛
