Have an Avalanche that has dual climate control. The passenger side only blows out warm/hot air. What's the first couple of things I can check or perform myself instead of taking it into the shop?

As I understand it, dual climate control is usually done by cooling the air to the lowest setting between the two via AC and then re-heating the air via a smaller heater core, one on each side.

It could be at best an electronic problem at worst broken blend door or actuator. The dash may have to be pulled....

X2. The GM regals have a similar problem. The cog in the blend door actuator is prone to breakage and the door gets stuck. It's tough to feel sorry for you. I only WISH I could use A/C this time of year 😉

Had a similar issue on a Town and County
Ended up just being the switch that controls heat/cold for each side

had to replace the whole panel to fix the switch though
