is this a good set up ill be adding 2 gtx480s to it i have the harddrives and power supply ... would this be better than a AMD 965?

1-(Motherboard) RAMPAGE 2 EXTREME motherboard complete, all parts included I/O, sound card, etc (I wrapped motherboard in my mobo static packaging) Item has been opened but nvr used. OC board with socket 1366 this the best socket future proof.

2-(Processor) Intel i7/920 batch#3910a646 in box with original fan (has been tested and works thats all) the batch is a do stepping from my research, now will it hit 4.2 ghz with low voltage? as we all know you can nvr tell till you try it, all batches/chips are different on OC.(like playing the lotto)

3)-(Memory) Corsair Dominator 6GB make CMP6GX3M3A1600C8 1600MHZ -unopened

4)-(Memory upgrade)- Corsair Airflow 2 -opened reviewed not tested

with a little tweaking this would double stomp the crap out of a 965 rig, but you would need to need the horsepower... also this is a more expensive rig than a 965 generally would be...

this would have the potential to get more out of 2 480's than a 965 setup...

yes i have a super great amd set up now but looking at changeing to intell cpu and board ... to support the sli gtx 480s i have and i have the rest ofthe set up just did not know a good intel cpu / mother board im sure i could find a cheaper deal but this one comes with memory and i could sale the memory due to i have 12 gigs now ... so in trun i only need a good cpu MB and im set ... with that said i have newer built a intel set up so i was kinda lost in what to look for that would hold me for a while ..

yes... now we could get into the long conversation about buying a x6 capable mobo and a 965 now and upgrading later, but a 4ghz i7 9xx is the fastest thing around now for gaming for the reasonable future...

Look into a very good 1000w+ PSU for 480's in SLI with any overclocking


To op, As mentioned already the i7 is going to be the best CPU for the next year or so and will power 480's in SLI very well, especially if you get a good overclock.
