It is the decor that is a mess. Someone tried to take rustic cabin and turn it into a modern art master piece, doesn't really work...

1 bathroom for each bedroom and then probably a pool bath.

Then a bunch of little bathrooms next to all the fun rooms. Living room, kitchen, game room etc etc.

the outside really isn't my style, but I can see why americans like it.

Yeah, you don't really see rustic cabin mixed with cobble stone. I think of cobble stone as being more of a building material of very old European rural single story houses and castles.
