While I was making breakfast I overheard a Sunday morning show in which John McCain was repeating his diatribe about how awful it was that Susan Rice lied about Benghazi.

He went on to say (the only way?) how this damaged our country; it was embarrassing to the U.S. on the world stage.

I thought about the peaceful Sochi Olympics, and wonder why we're not as embarrassed by the fact that we couldn't pull off a deadly, bomb-free Olympics in '96.

Hearing the American media and some officials talk before the Sochi games, it almost sounded like they hoped for a bombing.

I also wonder why we're not embarrassed every time there's a mass shooting. We must look like idiots sometimes, but not I think because of Susan Rice.

John McCain is just butt hurt because his campaign to drum up support for bombing Syria fell on deaf ears.

I liked John McCain years ago now he is getting absurd. He is on Sunday TVs shows every weekend now blibering the same old party talking points. We would be in 4 wars if we listened to him.

The lie over Benghazi is perpetrated by government officials. Mass shootings, generally, are not. While both are bad, you compare apples to oranges. In addition, you know McCain isn't worth listening to.

There was a deadly bombing in Salt Lake City?

Also, since when did government officials conspire to blame mass shootings on some random person who posted a stupid video on YouTube?

The OP seems to new embarrassed that he doesn't live in Russia where they jail female bands for singing a song against Dear Leader.

Sorry I meant Atlanta- corrected.

It's not about them. It's about us and how I think our pride can get in the way of taking an accurate view of ourselves, and easy to criticize and assume about others.

You're right. We live in a country where a female band gets death threats from "patriots" for singing a song against Dear Leader.

The hawks enjoy a lot of support. If this country takes a swing back to the right, who knows?

It was just a stupid point all the way around. Like asking should Germany be embarrassed because they can't pull off a mass murder free Olympics?

The levels of heavy-handed security in Sochi would make your head spin. There have been several Muslim extremist groups that have made bomb threats. (As usual.) Sochi isn't "peaceful" for any lack of a fuckload of armed force, nor ever are any held anywhere as the world has been well aware since '72.

It's not about them. It's about us and how I think our pride can get in the way of taking an accurate view of ourselves, and easy to criticize and assume about others.
Excusing your government for an asinine cover up and attempt to frame a random citizen for expressing freedom of speech via a stupid you tube video is hardly taking an accurate view. It's being a total tool, of the type of mindset that allows governments to feel free to engage in far worse.

I'm glad you don't see a difference between people expressing their opinions over a band.

And government locking up, and beating them because they don't like what they are saying.

Meh. He's probably perfectly fine with big govt. suck-ups trying to railroad a plumber for daring to ask Dear Leader a question.

That sounds a little like what Megyn Kelly was saying:

Without fanfare, Fox News host Megyn Kelly finally acknowledged that the network's campaign to sink Susan Rice's potential nomination to President Obama's cabinet was rooted in fundamental dishonesty.

In 2012, Fox repeatedly pushed the smear that Rice, for political reasons, deceptively attributed the September 2012 attacks on U.S. diplomatic facilities in Benghazi to violent protests over an anti-Islam video that were sweeping the Middle East and Africa. Together with scores of right-wing pundits, the network dragged Rice through the mud, despite the fact that she was simply citing intelligence community's talking points that attributed the Benghazi attacks to the video. At the height of Fox's dishonest campaign, Kelly questioned whether Rice was qualified to serve as Secretary of State:

So basically at the heart of it; leftists are big govt tools that are embarrassed when anyone talks about the cover ups their beloved dear leaders engage in.

If big govt says "Salman Rushdie shouldn't have written that book or that you shouldn't make a video and put it up om YouTube" you should obey blindly and heap scorn on anyone who dares question.

Whatever dear leader and his spy agencies says go.

So basically, lefty twits are embarrassed that everyone isn't as big a bunch of suck-up tools as they are.

I'll have you know, you're a like an innocent and less interesting version of anarchist420.

Basically, you're on my stab list.

Seriously - a stab list?

You liked John McCain years ago because he was on Sunday TVs shows every weekend blibering (SIC) the same old DEMOCRAT party talking points. McCain thought the media loved him; he later learned he was merely a useful tool for tearing down the GOP.

It's also worth pointing out that the only new war McCain would have us in is the one pushed by the Messiah, NOT McCain's fellow GOPers.

It's an interesting comparison between Benghazi & the Atlanta Olympic games...

Both had bombings that the United States royally fucked up on who was to blame.

You live in a fucked up world where death threats is just "expressing their opinion"?

And, I don't see a difference between a person who wants to kill someone versus a government who wants to kill someone over an opinion. But again, you live in a fucked up world where you seem to think there's a difference in there somewhere.

Versus Russia where the citizens were out in the streets protesting with death threats against one of the Olympic hockey referees.

I don't know why "death threats" have become the norm to mean "I don't want to kill you, I just want you to know I don't like what you did." I don't do it, you have to ask those who make death threats why they do it.

But if you *don't* see the difference... when government makes threats, they usually are very serious. And since the police are a part of the government...
