A blow to my ego

I had applied for a job that would really advance my career and came with amazing benefits(plus might get me away from the mismanaged department I am currently in)

Both interviews went really well. At the second one they told me I was 1 was one of 2 final candidates. People actually stopped me after the second one and said they thought it went well, they were impressed, and they really liked my tie. I stayed around to chat them up a little bit.

The person that called my references told the last one that 'These are some of the best recommendations I have ever gotten for a candidate'

Unfortunately I found out today that I did not get the job :(

I am really suprised since this was probably the best I have felt about the interviews. It also ruins my 5 for 5 streak on interviews to getting the job ratio

Sigh....back to the grindstone I guess.....

Man, that other guy must have been amazing!

More likely, they had already decided to hire an internal candidate before the position even opened up, and just needed to go through the job posting/interview motions to satisfy HR policy requirements.

LOL
Yeah... they said "Some of the best references... " THE BEST were from the other guy!

In seriousness OP, just keep your head up. To get "rejected" with nothing but positive response is better than just getitng rejected or laughed at. There'll be more opportunities around the corner.

I know right! I called to basically find out why (and express my thanks for their time and consideration in case he dies or doesn't work out or something) since I was really suprised but the guy who made the decision is out of the office because his wife is in labor today so maybe I'll eventually find out why.....

Actually, having worked for this company before (in another area), I know they don't even interview outside candidates if there is an internal candidate available.

Making it to the final two in this environment is pretty good. Should be a boost to your ego!

Very very very unlikely.

It was an amazingly nepotistic company. I guess it's always a possibility but it seemed very unlikely. I met the entire group and no one had experience in the area I did. Plus I think they all made more than the position range posted but this is some conjecture

Yeah - thats what my wife said considering the economy. We had a lower level position open and we got 400 apps in the first 3 days. Still - its almost worse to make it 'so close yet so far'

To assuage your wounded ego, just tell yourself they did not hire you because they felt you were a threat to their position. Probably worried they would end up working for you, before too long.

ROFL...nice segue...

OP, if it makes you feel better, consider it this way...

They didn't give you the new job because they knew it'd be nearly impossible to fill your current job to the same level of competence that you bring.

Of course, that's pure bullshit designed to sooth your bruised ego...but if it works....:p

this.... I found this out recently in the company I work for. Job postings will be online and also in the bulletin board. In the end, its who you know and being connected to the right people.

Not sure if this is a parody thread or someone will post one soon. :|
