A-Bit VP6 problems

Just assembled a new computer system. Used an A-Bit VP6 MB, Intel fc-pga 700e CPU. I am having a problem getting the system to boot. When I turn the power on, all that happens is that the fans start up...nothing else. I have tried everything that I know to do.

I have started from scratch 3 times now, trying to find the error. Still get the same results...fans only.

If any one out there has any ideas, I would love to hear from you. Thanks.

I have the same problem. I'm on my second board now, and still no boot.

They shipped this board with a sheet of paper that shows they tested it before they shipped it, and everything was Ok.

The only thing I have not tried is a new Power Supply (some people claim this is the problem) but I have one on order now.

We will see......................

If your asking me.....both. I have tried it with one, two, one in one socket then the other, etc. Every combo you can think of, and still no post.

I am really scared right now. I have two 700 P3 procs sitting in my drawer and the VP6 is arriving tomorrow. I think I am going to cry :( (kidding)

I hope you guys find a solution, you may see me posting my problems along with yours.

(I hope we all get out of this w/ working systems)

Good luck to you guys and wish me the same tomorrow when I wage war with Intel once again. :)

Another question: shoudn't I be able to get to the BIOS even if the CPU isn't working properly?

Are you getting video? I am planning to get this board soon as well. I see PIII700's are down to $135!

I'm not getting anything.

The light on the board comes on, the fan spins up and that's it.

I've tried it with my G-force AGP and a generic PCI card.

No video at all.....not even a beep.

The keyboard light flashes for a quick second when the power is applied, but that's it.

I have tried a generic stick of Kingston PC100 and a stick of that new tiny PC150, neither one worked, and they both work on my MSI694D VIA based board.

I have tried four different sticks of pc133 that I know worked in other systems. Also, all of the peripherals have been tested in other systems and are known to be in working order. The only two unknown compenents for me are the MB and CPU. I don't have another fc-pga board to try out the CPU on.

Hi!

I think I know the solution to the problem!

It was the same for me, put in the CPU, mount the board and placed it in the case, plugged in all my PCI cards (Sound, TV-tuner and Network) and my AGP GF2. Turned on, but nothing happens, only the fans and my hard drive spinned up.

The solution (or at least a way that worked for me, but I do not take any responsibilities!) :

It seems this board does not like to boot up with a large number of changes in it, I mean: for example a new CPU, and lots of cards that change slots or plugged in the first time the motherboard boots. What I did was the following:

1. I unplugged power supply from my case (that means simply turning off your PC with power button is not enough!)

2. I took off every card, except my AGP Geforce2.

3. I cleared CMOS with the jumper (set it to the other position for 2 seconds, then set it back to original).

4. I plugged in power supply, but did not pressed power button yet (a red LED turns on on the motherboard, near the lower right corner)

5. I cleared CMOS again (maybe it is not necessary)

6. Turned on the computer. It booted!!! Went into BIOS, and turned off USB and RAID controllers in Integrated Peripherals menu.

7. Plugged in PCI cards one-by-one, and always rebooted my machine just before OS started to boot (pressed CTRL-ALT-DEL)

8. Turned on USB and RAID, and installed OS.

Everything is fine now.

I hope I could help you.

Oszi.

Latest update:

Got the new VP6 in today and installed it. BAM...same problem...light on MB, fans spin up and nothing else...doesn't hit the floppy, beep, or show any BIOS.

This is really getting to be a problem. Anyone have any more ideas out there?

From Oszi's description, it seems maybe it's enough to make sure you plug all the boards in "well", i.e., make sure the boards engage completely in the sockets?

I must say my VP6 worked the first time I tried, and with 2 CPUs. But, for other reasons, I did go gradually, like Oszi. First CPU, RAM and video only, then added disks, then added sound & network. I never cleared CMOS. And when I first turned it on, it was set to 133FSB on my PIII 700E - instant overclock! (could it have been returned by someone? nah, the retailer would never do that:Q).

Maybe Oszi is on to something?

Runs like a champ. Can't wait till I get another CPU and OC to see what this baby is capable of.

My thanks to everyone who offered advice and insight. This has definitely been a very valuable learning experience.

if you run the ps at 110 in places where the power is 220, it is gone (you will see smoke and probably some fireworks...) but if you try to run the ps at 220 in the US (110), just nothing will run, that's all
