A bit of an issue with my Samsung S3...

I've only had it maybe 4 months now, but I use the headphone jack to plug into the AUX connector of my car at least 2x a day. What has resulted is I have to "twist" the cable for it to get sound maybe 1/4 of the time. Headphones seem to work fine.

I've already taken alcohol swabs and pinched them into the jack which did bring a very small amount of dust out.

When I get home, I'll probably try a q-tip..

Other than that, I'm at a loss until I get a new car that can do Bluetooth streaming.

I really love my S3, and have everything setup on it... the last thing I want to do is get it repaired under warranty and lose everything I've put on it.

I was also looking into getting the Klipsch Android earbuds off of Amazon because they just look cool and come with an Android app, but at this point I'm worried the headphone jack is already seeing its last days.... :(

If headphones seem to work fine, then why are you hung up on blaming the phone? Replace the aux cable and see if that helps

Also, what is on the phone that can't be backed up? Pictures can be synced with dropbox or just copy+paste from PC, contacts can be synced with google (and should be), etc. You can even install clockwork mod and create a backup of your entire phone if you think it's necessary.

I should reiterate, I HAVE had minimal issues with headphones as well. I agree and know everything can be backed up, but the configs I have on here for work are just extremely complex and I've never been a fan of Titanium or the like. I used to flash new ROMs almost every other day, but that's just not me anymore.

I'll try an air duster as well when I get home, and hope for the best.

Maybe use my Jawbone for GPS Nav instead of AUX/speakers, that could save on the wear and tear...

Thanks for the reply.

Before going too far, have you tried a new cable? Get a cheapie from monoprice or try a spare and see if it makes a difference.

I don't know too much about ROMs and such, but can't you make a nandroid backup, copy it over to your computer or sdcard, and then warranty the phone?

The problem is the AUX cable is integrated into the dash due to it being a cheap setup by a mom and pop shop. My '07 Accord didn't come with an AUX connector built in, so they had to add a converter box to attach to the deck. So I'm going to give a couple of buds a try tonight and hopefully there's no issues and it's just the AUX cable in the car. I'm going to need a new car in a year or two anyway, and it'll undoubtedly have Bluetooth and a good stereo so I should be fine.

Aux connectors wear out. It could be the cable. I buy cheap mono price retractable aux cables because they're small and convenient, but they seem to start having issues after 6 months or so (of fairly heavy use; multiple daily insertions).

Good to hear. It's been about a year, and I've abused the hell out of it. If it isn't the S3, I'll be very happy.
