Hi, im looking to upgrade the CPU in my KT7 motherboard (its a 1G Athlon TBird right now).
Whats the fastest chip i can upgrade to?
I checked the abit webpage and it just said..

"Supports AMD-K7 Athlon/Duron Socket A 200MHz FSB Processors"

Im no genius when it comes to CPU's, so can someone please tell me whats the best CPU i could install in this motherboard?
Im looking to upgrade before the release of UT2003.

Thanks in advance!!

I have a KT7 as well, but I'm running a 1.2 Tbird. I believe it will run up to a 1.4 Tbird. They stopped making 200FSB Tbirds at 1.4.

1.4 TBird 200MHz is the one... It is usually more expensive than 1.4 TBird 266MHz.
Also I do not realy remember how to set multiplier... I believe you gotta set it to 5... better check it one more time

Whow,
there really is a price difference between the 200 and 266 models.

the 1.4G 266 is £89 while a 1.3g 200 is £115!!

Ok yeah, so its £25, but im trying to make this upgrade as cheap and painless as possible!

So on a KT7 i deffinately wont be able to use an Athlon XP no?

Thanks

Andy

No Athlon XP on the KT7.
When I had my KT7-RAID I ran a 1.2GHz/266MHz at 1.3GHz/200MHz because the 1.2GHz came unlocked. The 1.2GHz is probably cheaper, if you want to take the chance that they still come unlocked.

Are you sure about that?

Abits site (vaguely!)says that :-

ABIT KT7 / KT7-RAID / KT7E all version and KT7A/KT7A-RAID V1.0/1.1/1.2 cannot support AMD Athlon XP processor. And.......
As for KT7 and KT7A old version mainboards, which launched earlier than AMD Athlon XP processors, they are not hardware compatible with new CPU.

Is that merely because of the 133 FSB issue for the KT7? ,or is it more than that?
How about the Duron Morgan running in an Abit KT7?

I ask because a friend of mine has an Abit KT7 with an Athlon 800 ,its not quite fast enough for Medal of Honour!.
I was thinking of a Duron 1.2GHz as a cheap upgrade for him

I know the Asus A7V will run it but dunno about the Abit version
