A bit confused, how do you hook up a powered sub to a STEREO receiver?

Really? Aww well, it's alright. From what i've heard, the older Marantz stuff should beat out a vast majority of the newer stereo gear. I don't care much for the surround sound/movie stuff (maybe besides the sub 😛)

For example, the back of this unit? How do you plug it in?

Depends. If your sub has speaker level inputs you'd hook the receiver to the sub and then sub to the speakers.

SChweet. But hmm, if you were to plug the speakers into the sub, how would you control the crossover frequency? I'm guessing on the sub?

Bingo.

Or not control it. I have my speakers wired to the receiver and the sub hooked up in parallel. Crossover on the sub is only for the sub, speakers run full-range. Sounds better IMHO.

I'm a fan of the old Marantz stuff as well, though my old receiver started smelling like smoke and stopped working. 🙂

I plan to service the thing when i get it, making sure the thing's fireproof--i hope. I'm not about to allow a 30 year old receiver burn down my house 😛

*knocks on wood*

what about those pre-out jacks? you could hook it up to those, probably, if they are volume-controlled. otherwise, speaker level outputs.

The implications of 2 different speakers trying to reproduce the same frequencies at the same time is making my brain hurt. But if it sounds better to you, then enjoy.

My knowledge of subs isn't vast, but I don't think many outside the high end ones have the main-in loop back/line out.

Thing of it is, if I use the sub's cross then there's distinct seperation. Like in my car, the cabin speakers are high passed at 80Hz and the sub is low passed at 120Hz. If I low pass the sub at 80Hz it doesn't sound right at all.

And i remember it did sound good at your "weird" settings 😛
